The original purpose of architecture is to meet the people's needs to live. But some historical buildings, like the Summer Palace and the Big Arena, were built up for the noble's entertainment. However, they become a kind of mark or expression to show the nation's history and the culture after hundreds of years. They become so important and famous that even the best modern buildings cannot replace them because of the tremendous culture meanings.

Have you ever been to the Egypt to see the pyramid? Have you ever been to China to see the Great Wall and the Forbidden City? Have you ever been to Italy to see the Pisa Tower? I have. When I stay in front of these great buildings I can feel nothing only exciting. They are the wonders in the history. So I do believe no matter what reasons, these perfect buildings should not be broken or influenced because they are the products of the human's brilliance.

It is easily to imagine that if the historic buildings were altered to serve the contemporary needs, they will lose their values of being the culture's mark. If the Pyramid is rebuild to become a palace or castle just because the wealthy say they want to live in the pyramid and pay a lot of money, people will no longer see the real pyramid. The "pyramid" they see will be a replica but shows nothing but only the sign of wealthy. However, I do believe the Egypt’s government will never let it happen because they understand the Pyramid is more than a tool to make money, it is a symbol which shows the splendid culture of their own history.

Every country, every nation knows the historical buildings, especially the famous buildings, can win the respect of the whole world. The historical buildings become a culture exporting. If the government abandons this culture exporting only because they decide to serve the contemporary needs, I can only say: They are not responsible governments. Culture exporting can be a great impact to the whole world and raise the status of the nation. Why we know Egypt even we never been there? Why the foreigners always know the American's Civil War and the Declaration of Independence even they are not American or major in history? The answer is simple: Culture exporting. Though such kind of exporting cannot be fulfilled only by one or two buildings, but we have the chance to let the whole world know us and understand our culture through the historical buildings. So should the contemporary needs be served? Forget it. What a nation's need is to raise their status in the world and culture exporting, but not only fulfill some people's needs?

In sum, people and government of every nation should protect these historical buildings and finally put them to the world, because these buildings can no longer shows the nation's culture, but also help raising the nation’s status and become a kind of culture export.
