Agree or disagree, Newspapers can truly help people understand world events. Televison news doesn’t provide enough information.
When the television technology was applied into practice, the newspaper market got into an anxiety period, worrying to lose the shares in the media market that should have been theirs. However, before long, they found their role in the competition - helping people understand the world better. In other words, I agree with the standpoint presented above.
Basically speaking, television news broadcasting has a big limitation of time, which lead to a limited news radium. They have to manage every minute even every second for different use. A fully prepared news programme may be cut off by half by the editor only because there should be a talk show after that. While newspapers reporters can extent what they want to say as detailed as they want, within the fundamental principles established. What's more, there can be a larger number of news presented in newspapers. There could be essays, comments on a big issue,or a interview to the people on focus. If they desire, the editor can give a point news two to three sections long. So that's the newspaper's first role: convey detailed information people couldn't know from the television, here, the television act as a medium to raise people's interest in new events.
Furthermore, this advantage of newspapers as I mentioned above give this medium a deeper exploration in focus than television. Taking the big shocking news about LiuXiang as an example. After Liu quitted his participant right, television news programme immediately declared it to the mass, with no more than the massage itself. However, the newspaper journalists have more time to express the event since the publishing time is the midnight of that day. They wrote down the explanations from Liu's coach SunHaiping, and also described the reflection of the spectaculars and some moving backgrounds that the mass hardly knew. Why did he decide to quit this event, and what sorrow had he experienced in the way trying to insist on? Could he anticipate other competitions after Olympics? That's what people concerns about after hearing the news itself. Televisions just act as a conveyancer to raise public attention.
It is the newspapers’ role in the media market and its responsibility for producing profound news in wide range makes me uphold the opinion that it can truly help people understand world events better.
