Agree or diagree: 电视的主要目的是educate 而非entertain?

People’s attitude may vary concerning the issue that whether the primary objective of the TV programs should be entertainment or education. Some of them who believe that education should come first tend to agree with the stressing of education, however the main function of TV programs, in my point, is to entertain people by bringing leisure to everyday life. I base my point from the perspective of both audience and the TV program designer.

To begin with, TV program is considered to be the main channel through which people get entertainment to release pressure from work and study.  People are more likely to switch to the channel with the program which may bring them laugh and leisure. This is understandable because no one would prefer another dull educated program after a whole day’s working. A repeated observation recently shows that the program channel with more entertainment programs gains a higher audience rating than that with more educated programs. This is fairly a compelling example from the perspective of the audience that most of them are looking for more entertaining TV programs.

Further more, it is the responsibility of TV programmer to provide cetain programs in order to feed the apetite of the audience. More entertainment programs are produced these days to attract the attention of the audience. One phenonenon is that different TV program channels are now competing with each other by inviting Pop-stars or organizing PK programs to attain a higher audience rating. This shows that the TV program designer already realize such a trend towards entertainment TV program. (这个地方有点别扭)It is high time to concentrate on the entertainment program from the perspective of the TV program designer.

Opponents may argue that TV program do provide people an effective teaching-learning platform and people benefit from the educated programs including science and humanist. However, no one could deny the fact that the entertainment TV programs account for a far larger proportion f the entire TV programming industry than that of the educated ones.

In a nutshell, entertainment programs are now playing an increasing important role in TV program industry. Both of the audience and the TV program designer contribute to the entertainment program’s flourish.  I hold my point that entertainment will and continues to be the prime objective of the TV program industry.
