Agree or Disagree: university students should be required to take basic science classes even they are not part of the field of the study. 200777日教育类

Massive courses resulting from development of sciences lay a further burden on students of universities. In this condition, a school of people propose that universities should cancel some classes of basic science that have no correlation with students' major; while others maintain that those courses are essential even it is not a part of their study. In my perspective, I would agree with the latter and my reasons are as follows.

To begin with, in most cases courses involving basic sciences can help shape people's personalities. Students will have some valuable merits by learning these subjects. This calls me to remember the voice of Francis Bacon, Histories make men wise; poets, witty; the mathematics, subtle; natural philosophy, deep; moral, grave; logic and rhetoric, able to contend. This famous word indicates the role those courses play in shaping students' features. So even a student majoring in the field of social sciences including history could enjoy the benefits of taking mathematics. What is more, not only should students learn professional knowledge but they also should cultivate themselves in the stage of education in a university. As a result, hardly can we deny the importance of those basic sciences in the university education.

The second reason why I advocate the requirement of opening basic sciences in universities is that basic sciences actually support other fields of study. I will illustrate this point by the area of computer science. Admittedly, there is no directly relationship between computer science and mathematics at the first glance, yet in the advanced phase of researches on computer science, for example image processing, all theories are based on calculation of matrix. Accordingly, no one can deny the significance of mathematics and reduce or even cancel it in the education of universities. It is the same in other subjects. Architecture bases on physics and mathematics; archaeology deeply relays on history and geography; medicine calls for chemistry and biography. In this manner, it is neither advisable nor acceptable to cancel those basic sciences.

Furthermore, basic sciences provide human with essential method in the current era with quick development of technology. Despite of prosperity of interdisciplinary subjects and enormous changes of technique, their elementary knowledge that equals to basic sciences is perpetual. Consequently, it is necessary to reserve these elementary sciences. We can never expect the knowledge retrospect to new area, nevertheless we can solve problems by basic principles.

As a final analysis, because of its direct or indirect relation with subjects and its advantage in shaping students features, I hold the contention that all students are required to study basic sciences.

今天我的文章貌似应该你给我拍,而且就像我说的,我没时间再给应该给我拍的人回拍了。但是你给我改的实在很棒,所以我来回拍,而且回拍了发现收获很多!

lz的文章写的真不错,例子举得很恰当,可以说如果考试真的考这个,你的文章我认为至少是14.5分以上(15满分)。除了极少数的语法错误,我实在挑不出来有任何的逻辑错误。不过有些句子的表达还可以更完善一些。恕我鸡蛋里挑骨头,因为我给你改的几乎只是我个人认为比较好的意见,就整体文章而言,这篇绝对算是一篇范文。
只想知道你这篇写了多久,有掐时间吗?

谢谢你的回拍,尤其是在你时间很有限的前提下。关于逻辑的问题,大家都得注意了,呵呵~

时间的问题,坦率的说我在寄托贴的所有作文都是没有按时间写的,这篇用了1个小时。我的特殊情况可能允许我这样,因为我以前考GRE的时候全都是按照时间写的,从来没有不限时写过。15天的时间,每天写6篇,都是按时写,所以我速度不成问题,关键是思路的问题。我总结我GRE作文分数不高的原因在于15天的时间使得我没有足够的时间来准备作文的逻辑和思路。这也是你在我上一篇作文中提到的我没有办法有效的表达自己的观点。我由于不存在时间的问题,所以我需要练习的是语言和表达。这篇作文费时的地方有以下几点:1、思考文章的论点,用了大概8分钟的时间。2、have some valuable merits就像你所说的,我也觉得merit这个词不恰当,但想不到合适的。3、Architecture bases on physics and mathematics; archaeology deeply relays (relies)on history and geography; medicine calls for chemistry and biography. In this manner, it is neither advisable nor acceptable to cancel those basic sciences. 老实说这句话我想了挺久的。4、倒数第二段想最后的例证的时候用了不少时间,不过最后还是没想出来。

所以我想说的是,好的文章句子确实很难在短时间内想出,所以平时应该多练习练习,然后把这些句子背下来。就像背爱因斯坦或者弗朗西斯培根的名言一样,这样在限时写的时候才能得心应手。

我觉得你的作文已经相当不错了,对付托福这样的考试应该没什么问题。不过英语的学习还真是一个漫长的过程啊,呵呵~
