Teacher's ability to relate well with the students is more important than knowing the subject well.（2006 年2 月3 日）

Nowadays, there is a heated controversy concerning the capacity of a teacher. Some may hold the opinion that teacher's ability to have a good relationship with students is more significant than grasping the subject well. But others have a negative attitude. As far as I am concerned, I agree that the capacity of mastering the subject well is more crucial for a students than other things. My arguments for this point are listed as follows.

I agree with the statement that a teacher must know the subject well without reservation since it is one of the essential requirements for a teacher. As a good teacher, possessing the subject well is the precondition for a good teacher. It is a generally acknowledged that it is the chief obligation for a teacher to educate students knowledge. Thereby, if a teacher is not specialized in the area of study, how can he teach students well? From this perspective, I believe that it is indispensable factor for a teacher to master the subject well.

Another reason why I agree with the above statement is that I consider that it is of great benefit for students to be taught by a teacher who has a profound comprehension of the realm of study. It is the undeniable fact that students have a great longing for the knowledge. They have always a great amount of questions that need to be answered. If a teacher cannot master the subject well, he will not satisfied with students' desire for knowledge. Therefore, it is harmful for students to have a teacher who is not skilled in the subject.

Furthermore, a teacher who just only relates well with students is far from a good teacher. Because he spend too much time on handling with the relationship with students, but not focus on the subject. Although he may relate well with students, there is not possible for him to have a good reputation from students. It is because that students tend to love a teacher who master the subject well.

In a word, taking into account of all these factors, we may reach the conclusion that teachers' capacity of knowing the subject well is more substantial to be a good teacher.
