The speaker considers that discovery and progress are made only through mistakes. I strongly agree with the statement for three reasons. Firstly, depending on our own experiences, we could not success with mistakes. Secondly, many stories of famous people could tell us that the importance of mistakes. Thirdly, the development of the society informs us that mistakes and errors provide the energy for true progress of society.

To begin with, we could learn that discovery and progress are made only through mistakes base on our own experiences. For instance, all the people need to learn how to walk by falling down again and again in the babyhood. Although some babies may learn faster than others, there is no baby could walk well without falling down. It is show that people learn the principle in the beginning of the life. When they grow up, they should experiences in attaining succeed after repetitious failing. So we could find that making progress by learning mistake is the basic skill for human being.

Furthermore, a lot of famous people’s story could show that progress and discovery are made only through mistakes. According to the history of science and technology, almost all the scientists make great progress and discovery by trial and error. For example, Edison, the most famous inventor in nineteen century, creates thousands of inventions in his life. He used to say that he could not invent the electric bulb without the three thousands failures, because studying the numerous mistakes help him to find the right method for the invention. So we should notice that mistake help us find out what is unworkable and then we could approach the right solution.

In addition, the development of society informs us that mistakes and errors make contributions on true progress of society. The society which could learn the right way of development through mistakes has more vitality than others. For example, China was poor and uncultured in the past year due to the mistake of the policy. After careful examination about the situation of the country, the leader of China discovers anther way for development. Without the mistake and failure, it is quite difficult for Chinese people to make the progress nowadays.  

In conclusion, nobody and no society could make progress without mistake. We should notice that that mistake could provide the energy for true progress because it helps us find out what is unworkable and hence we can approach the right solution. At the same time, fearing making mistakes will prevent us from trying new things and taking risks.
