TOPIC: ISSUE161 - "In this age of intensive media coverage, it is no longer possible for a society to regard any woman or man as a hero. The reputation of anyone who is subjected to media scrutiny will eventually be diminished."
WORDS: 506          TIME: 0:55:00          DATE: 2006-8-29

In this age of society and technology fast changing, information people can get is increasing exponentially. Media is one of the most important approaches to get information. The speaker asserts that the reputation of anyone who is subjected to media scrutiny will eventually be diminished. I agree with this point, however, media also have much positive effect on creating new heroes.

Undeniable, intensive media coverage has negative effect on heroes. In today's society, the competition in any field is rather severe. To get more audience, and to attract more attention, media have to find some explosive news. In this news, not only there are great, significant events, but also some scandals. For example, the Gree electric company is a very famous company in China. Unfortunately, the corruption of Gree electric company's senior manager was revealed by media. The manager had defalcated nearly seven million dollars in three years. This negative report indeed damaged the reputation of Gree Company, and had a bad effect of national industrialists which are respected by people as national heroes. To some extent, media even lead people's values. Therefore, media's influence is powerful, and media scrutiny can really diminish the reputation of celebrities.

With media's help, people's attitude of heroes become more rational. Although scandals reported by media do harm for heroes' reputation, media let people realize that celebrities or heroes are common people who could make mistakes. When people pay attention on the negative reports, they should not ignore the positive aspect of these celebrities. People would evaluate a hero or celebrity roundly, only after they compare the good aspects with these mistakes. For example, the famous former President of USA, Bill Clinton was focused on his sexual scandal in the past. It is his fault surely, but people could not forget that he did a lot of contribution to improve American economy. Comparing the sexual scandal with achievement in his post, it is just a peccadillo.

However, media do not impede or extinct the birth of heroes. On the contrary, intensive media coverage prompts new heroes to come out, especially in the sports fields. Sports are the most popular programs in many countries. Media reporting the competition and interview the champion can inspirit people's enthusiasm and create new national heroes. Xiang Liu, the newest hero of China, who won the gold medal of men's 110-meter hurdle race in Athens Olympics Game 2004. Hugh amount of media reported this surprising fact, and thousand of cameras focused on this yellow skin Chinese young athlete. Because of media reporting crazily, Chinese knew this significant young man, and respect him as a new national hero. His spirit and achievement would encourage Chinese youth to make more efforts. Hence, it is media to create more heroes for people than ever before.

In conclusion, media extend people's view and help people to get more information than before. Although media have both advantages and disadvantages to heroes, to some extent, the creating of new heroes attribute to media. People could get more benefit from treating media objectively.

In this age of society and technology fast changing, information people can get is increasing exponentially. Media is one of the most important approaches to get informationGood!. The speaker asserts that the reputation of anyone who is subjected to media scrutiny will eventually be diminished. I agree with this point, however, media also have much positive effect on creating new heroes.

Undeniable, intensive media coverage has negative effect on heroes. In today's society, the competition in any field is rather这个词有点不妥吧? severe. To get more audience, and to attract more attentionfrom public, media have to find some explosive news. In this news, not only there are great, significant events, but also some scandals. For example, the Gree electric company is a very famous company in China. Unfortunately, the corruption of Gree electric company's senior manager was revealed by media. The manager had defalcated nearly seven million dollars in three years. This negative report 个人觉得,这个例子不如换个美国的比较好,美国腐败贪污的例子比比皆是!indeed damaged the reputation of Gree Company, and had a bad effect of national industrialists which are respected by people as national heroes.

When people pay attention on the negative reports, they should not ignore这个词宜换成neglect the positive aspect of these celebrities.

In this age of society and technology 这不是两个并列得成分,可以改下information and technology fast changing, information people can get is increasing exponentially.
