提纲：同意，effective political leader应该distinguish什么该说，什么不该说
1．首先an effective political leader肯定会把自己的弱点隐瞒起来，以免被对手们攻击。完全的honest是不可取的（例子：Bill Clinton, sexual scandal）；此外当被媒体问到尴尬问题的时候，譬如有些可能会影响组织内部的关系的问题，effective political leader也不大会说实话。
2．再者，an effective political leader也不可能一直讲真话，譬如有些涉及国家安全的绝密，或者会带来民众不安定的信息肯定会被隐瞒
3．尽管对于政治家要考虑到各种因素来决定是否tell the truth，我们必须得承认作为一个人必须要诚实


Basically, I assent to the claim that an effective political leader is not going to tell the truth all the time for it is impossible, nonetheless when it comes to the later part in the title statement that complete honesty is an undesirable virtue for a politician, I am afraid it depends.

To start with, it is common for an effective leader to hide the truth sometimes for several reasons as discussed in the following part. Firstly, it is not wise for an effective leader to expose the weakness to the opponents after all, for in the game of politics the opponent are usually waiting for the right opportunity to beat him down. And when a political leader tells the truth with regarding to some of his or her deficiencies, the political opponents will not miss the wonderful chance to pull down the leader and replace with their own member. Consider, Bill Clinton, the ex-president of the United States, confessed his improper sexual relation with Monica Lewinsky, which eventually caused serious attacks from his opponents, undermining his leadership and resulting in the collapse of his government. Secondly, it is also impossible for an effective political leader to tell the truth when asked about some awkward questions concerning their relationship and opinions to their colleagues. Telling the truth sometime will do nothing good to the development of their party, or even make a controversy inside the party to be a outside one, which will definitely harm the image of their party and let the opponents have the chance to win.

What is more, an effective leader can not and should not tell the truth when inquired about some top secrets of their country, or if the exact truth might lead to chaos in their country, they should also hide these truth. For example, every country has their own top secrets which are related to the country’s security. If this kind of information is leaked out, the enemies of the country might have the chance to attack this nation and bring huge damage to this country. Furthermore, an effective leader will also withhold the fact that will lead to people’s anxiety and unstable society. Under most circumstances, people can be told the truth for the reason that the exact fact will cause people’s anxiety about the future and even cause riots, therefore an effective leader should not leak out such information.

Confessedly, we agree that honesty is a crucial virtue for human being and for a political leader it is also essential since people welcome and support honest leader which is the basis of a successful political leader. However in some situations, complete honesty might be actually imprudent deed. So an effective political leader have to distinguish what can be given the truth and what can not.

On balance, honesty is a virtue for every one, however, to achieve an effective leadership a political leader should know when to tell the truth and when not.
