The title statement claims that we each in our society have the obligation to obey just and fair laws, and as ordained by the statement, we also bear the responsibility to disobey and resist unjust laws? As far as I am concerned, I fundamentally agree with the author, for that obeying just laws and resisting unjust laws can keep our society stable, sustain the peaceful and healthy development of our economy, and ensure the safety of the public.

In the first place, just and fair laws can to a large extent keep our society stable and steady-going, on the contrary, unjust and unfair laws not only imperil people’s lives, but jeopardize the stability of our society. Only when every individual in our society obeys just laws can laws effectively guide and direct our lives. In our daily life, we have to obey thousands of rules which have been set up and consciously conducted by the pubic. No matter how trivial the rules are, they, however, all have their functions. Consider, if we do not comply with the traffic rules concerning crossing the streets, we can imagine that how chaos the streets would be, and thus, I believe that there must be a large number of traffic accidents every day. What is even more awkward and worse, it would result in highly disordered for our society, not to mention that we are dedicated to establishing a more civil society. Even a trivial event happening to us can largely affect the healthy operation of our society, therefore, we have to obey the just laws. In the likelihood, we also have to disobey and resist unjust laws, which may bring negative effects to our interests and to our society as well. For instance, if our government unreasonably allow owners of industrial factories to abuse their powers deceiving the consumers by transgressing the limits of laws, under this circumstances, we, of course, undoubtedly have to strongly resist it because it violates the basic interests of the public, and in a long-term run, it may, also, result in uncontrollable situation of the markets in the society.

In the second place, it is we honestly obey just laws and strongly and forcefully disobey unjust laws that create the civil and advanced society in our world. There is no denying that we live in a more comfortable world with more advanced products available to meet our needs. Why? For one thing, we use our hands and wisdoms to create them, for another, it is our laws which act as bodyguard and referees that ensure that we smoothly and safely manufacture and conduct businesses without disturbing or destroying by peacebreakers or outsider who may deliberately violate manufacturing. Just imagine if people in our society violate the rules every day, for instance, breaking into the places where people live acting as buglers, destroying the pipes of the gas, or even throwing bomb to kill people, all of which would result in rather dangerous and even catastrophic situation. However, fortunately, our civil people fundamentally obey the laws, which actually, in a large extent, effectively avoid this kind of tragedies mentioned above.

Admittedly, in our democratic society, it is necessary for our government to provide a forum for the public to express their unsatisfaction and give instructive suggestions. Whether a law is just and unjust depends on the interests of the public. In other words, a typical law sometimes brings completely converse effects to people who stand at different positions. For example, in the field of environment, a law relating to the let of wastewater always stirs up drastic debate and controversy in the public and the owners of the company. The former concerns potential harm the wastewater would bring, on the contrary, the latter sometimes just cares about the benefits of the company and the cost of treating the wastewater. Under this circumstance, government should act as a medium where both could express their opinions and ideas respectively. The final arbitration of this event would be the government, which may bring to the amelioration of law system step by step.

In sum, I fundamentally agree with the author, for that obeying just laws and disobeying and resisting unjust ones can keep our society in a healthy atmosphere and, also preserve the safety of our public, while the government also have to accept and listen to opinions and suggestions from all aspects of our society by providing all kinds of tools and forums available.
