Nowadays, it is common that TV sets are the centre toward which all the furniture points at in the hall. The fact may superficially illustrate the importance of television in common people’s life. When more and more people are attracted in front of TV sets, we may ask, do books totally lose its territory to television? I should point out the fact that the answer depends on a case-by-case analysis.

Admittedly, television has been nibbling the territory of books since it became popular among the mass. First, television broadcast can provide people with dramatic pictures and clear sounds while books actually cannot. In combination with pictures and sounds, television and only television supplies people a more accurate and integrated impression about what has happened. For example, the famous programs of discovery channel are generally more attractive than the books that make similar introductions of the wildlife or places around the world. Second, television can provide us immediate news all around the world about what has happened. Therefore it is usually difficult to attract People’s attention back to the relatively irresponsive books while they are already accustomed to immediate and realistic news that is reported as soon as it happens. People’s curiosity whose curiosity is fully satisfied with the TV reports may lose their impulse to buy a book in the same field. Third, a large number of the TV programs we watch are for free. As long as people have a TV set, they can watch them as they will. People’s costs for entertainment or getting information are more or less reduced, which is an important factor influencing people’s choices between books and Television. Simply put, the books’ importance of entertaining and informing in people’s life is being diluted by the boom of television broadcasting.

However, while television actually begins to dominate people’s life, books remain an indispensable part in conveying human ideas and thoughts. On one hand, common sense tells us that two most important sources of a broadcast company’s revenue are advertising fees and money from subscription television customers, both of which depend on the same lifeline-audience rating. To improve the company’s profit means that they would have to attract as many audiences as possible. Therefore, our TV guide is usually teeming with programs that are most popular among the mass- usually programs that entertain them most. As a result, the space for programs that are produced to convey abstract and profound knowledge or recondite human ideas is so condensed and some of them are even removed from programs list. When this happens, people have to turn to publishers who do not provide books for free and do not need to take into account how much profit they may get from advertising as long as there is a potential market for their products. On the other hand, television programs tend to restrict people’s imagination and their willingness to think on their own. When watching TV, people interpret the context of the programs in a way that the editors of the programs have designed for them. The periods in television are so precious that no time is allowed to the audience to develop their own opinion and imagination before the answers and concrete figures are given. On contrast, people reading books can freely imagine or rethink on the context of the books. They can take their time and close the books before they are satisfied with their own answers or imagination. Last but no least, from a practical view, books are convenient for people to read anywhere they want. People can read books on grass field, on benches of the subway while watching television requires a set of accessories, such as power supply, antenna, or even remote control. To sum up, the inner characters of television industry determine that they cannot replace print books in their function of conveying human ideas and thoughts.
From what is discussed above, we may safely arrive at the conclusion that books, instead of totally being replaced by television broadcasting, will continue play an important part in the age of television. Actually, I would say a combination of both books and television will actually promote the boom of each other, and thus improve people’s life quality by supplying them information and knowledge coming out of all fields.

Nowadays, it is common that TV sets are the centre toward which all the furniture points at in the hall. The fact may superficially illustrate the importance of television in common people’s life. When more and more people are attracted in front of TV sets(are attracted by television program), we may ask(maybe we will ask), do books totally lose its territory to television? I should point out the fact that the answer depends on a case-by-case analysis.(开头最好表明自己的观点

Admittedly, television has been nibbling the territory of books since it became popular among the mass(TS应该写的明确一些,而且这句话表达有问题,电视怎么会吞噬书的领域呢? First, television broadcast can provide people with dramatic pictures and clear sounds while books actually cannot. In combination with pictures and sounds, television and only television supplies people a more accurate and integrated impression about what has happened(只有电视吗? For example, the famous programs of discovery channel are generally more attractive than the books that make similar introductions of the wildlife or places around the world. Second, television can provide us immediate news all around the world about what has happened. Therefore it is usually difficult to attract People’s attention back to the relatively irresponsive books while they are already accustomed to immediate and realistic news that is reported as soon as it happens. People’s curiosity whose curiosity(that) is fully satisfied with the TV reports may lose their impulse to buy a book in the same field. Third, a large number of the TV programs we watch are for free. As long as people have a TV set, they can watch them as they will. People’s costs for entertainment or getting information are more or less reduced, which is an important factor influencing people’s choices between books and Television(这点想的很好).

They can take(spend) their time and close the books before they are satisfied with their own answers or imagination.
From what is discussed above, we may safely arrive at the conclusion that books, instead of totally being replaced by television broadcasting( despite of influence from television more or less), will continue play an important part in the age of television. Actually, I would say a combination of both books and television will actually promote the boom of each other, and thus improve people’s life quality by supplying them information and knowledge coming out of all fields.

Nowadays, it is common that TV sets are the centre toward which all the furniture points at [既然有at,那which前面的toward做何解释呢?我一向语法都不好] in the hall. The fact may superficially illustrate the importance of television in common [换个词比较好,前面刚用common,比如ordinary] people’s life. When more and more people are attracted in front of TV sets, we may ask, do books totally lose its territory to television [lose …to 可以这样吗?如果不确定,不如说give way to]? I should point out the fact that the answer depends on a case-by-case analysis.

Admittedly, television has been nibbling [搞了半天才看懂是完成进行时] the territory of books since it became popular among the mass. People’s curiosity whose curiosity [忘记删了吧,嘻嘻] is fully satisfied with the TV reports may lose their impulse to buy a book in the same field.[这句有点跑题了吧?有无对书的购买欲和获得知识没什么关系的啊] Third, a large number of the TV programs we watch are for free.[其实不是完全免单的吧,国内你需要交纳光纤费吧,国外很多节目是要收费的啊。 As long as people have a TV set, they can watch them as they will. People’s costs for entertainment or getting information [我觉得重点放在learning 上,不应该讨论entertainment,像以前某些电视台不是就在教课程吗,这个比自己买书学便宜多了] are more or less reduced, which is an important factor influencing people’s choices between books and Television.

When this happens, people have to turn to publishers who do not provide books for free and do not need to take into account how much profit they may get from advertising as long as there is a potential market for their products. On the other hand, television programs tend to restrict people’s imagination and their willingness to think on their own [后半句没懂]. When watching TV, people interpret the context of the programs in a way that the editors of the programs have designed for them. The periods in television are so precious [对audience算不上precious吧?] that no time is allowed to the audience to develop their own opinion and imagination before the answers and concrete figures are given.

Actually, I would say a combination of both books and television will actually promote the boom of each other, and thus improve people’s life quality by supplying them information and knowledge coming out of all fields.
People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books. ]
