Why do we study history? The importance of study history is not merely based on its relevancy to our daily lives. History has far-reaching impact on our culture and spirit world, even the study itself bears crucial significance.

To begin with, the history influence our daily lives by given us exclusive social identity, which intangibly but inevitably brands us. For instance, China and Japan had communicated in the past; they shared parts of their history and culture. Even now one can still identify the trace of their ancient communication through their language, ritual and ceremony. Maybe to some extent they are mysterious in view of the west, yet they can understand each other quite well. This identity is silently formed by shaping people's value system, the Weltanschauungs, and the self-reorganizations. "The history teaches by examples", it tells the descendants what the basic role of human nature, helping them understand the rules of the changing. The identity of the group peoples can be figured out during their interacting with the world and the history events, as they learn different things in their distinctive history. Even for the individuals the family's history can help establishing their family identity, and forms special commitment of loyalty in the family members. In short, the history plays a crucial role in the foundation of our Weltanschauungs, which guiding our behaviors every moment everywhere. Thus, we need to study history without doubt.

More over, even the history is not relevant to our own lives, it still worth studying. To illustrate this, I would like to give out following examples. If we want to understand the different nation, the observation on their history will be greatly helpful —though it has no direct relationship with our daily lives. Even though we do not appreciate their value system, their belief or their religion, but we can comprehend what they are thinking and why they thought so. This study can filled up the culture gap between different nations, and may lead to international harmony. Additionally, even the ancient scientific bookmaking, which is full of the incredible theory that has already been replaced by the update knowledge, should not be thrown into the shadow of the history. Though they are not firmly linked with our life any more, after study the science history we may know the great pioneers’ adventure on the way to truth. The sparks of the sage’s wisdom, courage, eagerness for truth will not fleet during the time’s elapsing. The study will surely promote the love of learning, and encourage us to step on the way to new discovery and progress. So, the study of the history will still be highly beneficial, even if it is not firmly relevant to our daily lives.

Finally, even the history study itself has remarkable value that should not be neglected. The history well told is dazzling beautiful. It serves as art and aesthetic entertainment based on the human nature and understanding. The dramatic and skillful writing of the epic, sagas, legends and history records that handed down form on generation to another inspired the pure joy of reading. People may even become enthusiastic to reconstruct the remote past of the past, as they are absorbed in the beauty of history and the excitement of perspective on the human society. This may explain why people are so fond of the costume play and historical movie. Further more, not only the professional historian can benefit from the study, but the common people can gain a lot form it. We can acquire a range of perspective and flexibilities required in many works as we study the society in the past and at present. We can develop the researching skill, the ability to find the information skills, and the capability to interpret and analyze. The study of history can help us on critical think, basic read and writing skill that is relevant to many analogical working. Thus, the history study is necessary as the study itself can benefit a lot.
