Since human civilization made every progress according with the development of science and technology, I strongly agree with the speaker that it is technologies that change the whole world-brought the significant convenience to the human beings, have tremendous influence on our traditions and cultures and inspire humans to explore the unknown areas. Nevertheless, as far as I am concerned, technology cannot be the determinant element to social customs and ethics.

Admittedly, technologies play an essential part in the process of human civilization. Without the development of technology, we cannot enjoy the current convenient and comfortable lives as well as the stable and prosperous society. When we take a look at history retrospect, we will find that the development of humans is actually the evolution of technologies. From the industrial revolution in the 19th century to the new prosperity of global internet, from the traditional instructions to the modern multi-media education, from the old indigenous mores to the multiple synthesized cultures, human beings experience innumerous changes in our lives. No one would deny that the progress of technology has little bearing with the modern social customs and ethic, as we known, it is the industrial revolution that liberated our women who were limited to housework before, and moreover, many ideas which was against the gender has been significantly altered by the advanced technology. Consider the clone, it is gradually accepted by people in the developed countries and with the progress of researches in the stem cell abstraction which has been proved beneficial to the treatment of memory losing, people’s previous debasement towards it became no longer intensive. And also the homosex, which was forbidden in the long historical period, becomes legal in some nations due to people's further understanding of the human psychology. Therefore, our traditional cultures and ethics were spontaneously challenged by the consistently developing technologies and even have been changed by them.

However, the history of nation still casts its shadow on the culture and ethics by building up the foundation that cannot be swayed by the development of modern technologies. It goes without saying that numerous traditions and people's ethics were heritance of the unique civilization of one country or a special group, in most cases, they were deeply embedded in people's minds and hearts and became the identities of nations, for that matter, the advanced technologies, even the most relevant ones to our lives cannot impact the roots of the customs and ethics. For the supporting example, one needs to look no further than the traditional festivals in China. With the opening and revolution policy and rapid advance of technology, the economy of this long-history country was greatly improved, nonetheless, many of its traditions remain the same. Every Chinese celebrates the traditional Spring Festival which symbolized the reunion of the whole family annually and when the Mid-Autumn Day comes, all Chinese eat the moon-cake and hold the boating competition. Even though the advanced technology proves that nobody could survive at the moon, each Chinese believe their traditional old stories that there is a beauty living in there. Similarly, the Father Christmas, for instance, even though the high-tech substantiated there is no such an old man traveling in the cold winter and sending gifts to children, people in the western countries still believe that they can enjoy the happiness and presents from the Father Christmas in the Christmas Eve. Therefore, given the great changes brought by the modern technologies, certain traditions and ethics cannot be simply determined by them.

As Russell said, " Science, by itself, cannot supply us with an ethic. It can show us how to achieve an end, it may also show us an end cannot be achieved "This quotidian well illustrated the influence of technology, the appliance of science, on ethics. Therefore, our mores and ethical principles, to a certain extent, cannot be changed or be determined by modern science and technology, the real determinant elements spring from our own ideas and values and the traditions and ethics can only be altered by humans thoughts but not technologies.

In summary, I concede the statement insofar as the progress of technology and science do influence our lives and sharply changed our world; however, if our mores and ethics were controlled or determined by those advanced technologies, I dare to imagine that what our society will look like in the future.

3 后面的2个例子不是很好~~~~想得到其他的吗?是的，我觉得有些牵强，在下愚笨，真的想不出什么技术进步改变传统和道德的好例子，如果你有的话，请不吝赐教！

其实我认为例子不一定要多, 分析好就行了
就用妇女地位的那个好好论述下, 因为可以和习俗直接挂钩的科技的确不好找~
