Scandals—whether in politics, academia, or other areas—can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could.

When it comes to the question that whether scandals can be useful on some level, people's opinions vary a lot over this debate. Some believe that they point out ways that no speaker or reformer could place on us while other hold the opposite view.
In every realm of the society, there are many dark places no matter whether it is or not in the society which is a so-called harmonious one. Dirty trades and affairs cover every corners of the society in spite of the flying--speed advancement of it. On some sense, we have to acknowledge the usefulness of the scandals bring to us, other than the bad influence even the damages they may take. Through the process of uncovering the fact of the scandals, we can judge how some people manage in a definitely wrong way towards some important affairs, at the meantime, more explicitly can we hold our attitude to treat the people as well as the affairs we encounter. Admittedly, scandals, to some extent, do help us to locate the disadvantages even the fallacies our political system and the lines of law may suffer from. Though we may experience great tragedy, through which we lost of many precise things in our lives, we could gain something valuable as well.
In addition, it is the speaker and reformer that hold the responsibility to draw people's attention on some current-happened heated social problems, whose statement always appears around people to arise their interesting to focus on the issue causing fierce contention. However, scandals, on the opposite side, sparkle its efficiency in striking the alarm to make people concentrate on the problems. A famous mobile car enterprise, Sanling, for instance, were accountable of several serious recent accidents causing straightly by the disadvantages of the mobile cars they produce, which did cost dramatically large numbers of deaths and injuries. Afterwards, they call back their cars to avoid any further accidents. Such scandal is made on the front page of the newspaper, and more, it wins more attention from people to the quality of the production about to pour to or already on the circulation market as well as the security of the customers.
Nevertheless, some scandals are only on the level of people's meaningless commentary rather than paving a new way for them to examine the world around them. Take Clinton's sex scandal for example, as time goes by, fewer and fewer people would like to talk it any more, no matter what great storm it brought to the society when it first comes to people's notice. Furthermore, another reason of this is that it is worthwhile for nothing valid of benefiting the society as a whole, on the contrary, only quantities of remarks and reports, which count for little, leaving behind.
For what has been discussed above, whether positive of negative, we may safely arrive at the conclusion that scandals in whichever areas can be useful to shed light on the social problems, at least on some level, but it is also highly possible that sometimes they fail to achieve this goal.
