1.27 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Governments should spend more money in support of arts than in support of athletics such as state-sponsored Olympic teams.

Nowadays, people's quality of life has been largely increased.Thus they pay more and more attention to improve their spiritual life and various entertainments.However governments should spend more money on airs or athletics? As for me, I firmly agree that governments should pay more money in support of arts.

To begin with, arts could make visceral impact on our senses, spirits and souls through various art forms such as novels, films, music and paintings. This impact could also be preserved for a long time. Shakespeare's Macbeth, for instance, teaches us that inordinate ambition is pernicious and it has already influenced generation to generation. The arts are didactic——they teach us. When we appreciate a film that is deeply moral, we see ourselves in the characters and we find the moral dilemma of the action to be representative of problems in all human relationships. It is government's duty to create a free and positive environment for more and more new works of art been created. And government should also play an important role in protecting a nation's distinct cultural traditions——its folk arts, crafts,customs and so on. All above are priceless treasure for the development of our human.

Admittedly, high development of athletics has its own merits. If governments invested more to build public fitness facilities, it brings great convenience for citizens to participate in athletics. However, It is not wise for government to spend too much money in support of some state-sponsored Olympic teams. Though it may bring shout-term benefits in some international sports competition, there is no more significance for improvements of citizens fitness. Tax revenue from citizens is the main capital source of governments. Thus governments should pay its funding for the benefits of most people.

To sum up, taking all the factors mentioned above, we may safely dram the conclusion that government should pay more money in support of arts. Investments for athletics are needed. While government should take a careful consideration on which aspects in athletics to spend their money. Arts are something that have lasting influences for everyone's life so that government should pay much attention to it.
