It’s better to use own knowledge and experience to solve question, or ask other people for advice?(08.5.31)
There is a general debate in society today over the question whether it is better for us to solve problems by using our own knowledge than asking other people for advice. Some people think it is better to use one’s own knowledge and experience to solve problems because it is more reliable and applicable. While others, on the contrary, say that asking others for advice will be a better way to solve problems for some advices has tremendous help to solve problem. As far as I concerned, I think both of them are excellent ways to help people solve problems.
Solving problems by using our own knowledge enjoys many advantages. In most cases, comparing with the information from others, knowledge of us is more reliable because we will check it before we use it. Others might provide wrong information at times, which might mislead us to make huge mistakes. Experience will be more applicable and flexible, everyone has own specific experiences which can tell people how to deal with different situations. For example, people who want to learn driving. Even if others have gave they tons of valuable advices, without sitting in the car and operate the steering wheel they will never be a qualified driver.
On the other hand, proper advices from other people can give tremendous help at times. Some problems cannot be solved by our own knowledge and experiences, but they are solved by adopting other people’s valuable advices. For example, choosing marriage partner is one of the most important problems that anyone needs to solve. Dose one can deal with it by using their knowledge or experiences? Most young people do not have such an experience and there is no knowledge can solve this problem. However, asking older people for suggestions should be the wisest method for young people to solve this problem. Similarly, there is another common phenomenon that most students turn to their academic advisor for suggestions when facing a dilemma to choose a major in university. Therefore, in some times, advices from other can be also helpful for people to solve problems.
As to which method is more important, the answers vary. Some problems can be well addressed only by one’s knowledge and experiences. It is unnecessary to bother others when we can solve problems by our own knowledge and experiences. On the other hand, some problems only can be solved by adopting others’ advices. When we try to choose a marriage partner, no knowledge can help us to address such a problem unless we ask older people for advices. Actually, in most cases, we have to use both methods simultaneously to cope with problems in our lives. A case in the point would the problems we encountered in our study. Teachers or classmates might be able to give us some hints to solve a question, but without knowledge and practicing experiences we still cannot answer difficult questions in study.
From what has been discussed above, I think whether it is better to use one’s own knowledge and experiences than asking advices from others to solve a problem depends on circumstances. |
