In order to succeed, you should be more like others than be different from everyone else.
With the approaching of the technologically advanced society, people put more and more emphasis on originality and novelty. However, when asked about whether a person will be more likely to succeed if he or she becomes different from others, people get into a dilemma. Some believe that if one gets more like others, he or she can avoid the alienation and isolation of your co-workers, so that he or she can easily succeeds. Meanwhile those who strongly disagree with it cite that only through distinguishing ourselves from everyone else, can we get the appreciation from others and finally succeed. From my own perspective, the latter is more reasonable.
First and foremost, new ideas come from thinking out of box. Only with the courage to challenge the tradition and authority, can people put forward new theories and eventually revolute the whole world. There
are lots of famous people in the history who change the human's perspective of the world by stand out of the convention and bravely speak out the truth: Had Galileo followed what ordinary people thought about the gravity, he would never have found the law of free fall; had Copernicus compromised to the dominant view of the universe, people would never have the opportunity to appreciate the true nature of our galaxy;and had Darwin yielded to the prevalent theory-creationism, people would never came out of the shadow of the God and try to understand ourselves more scientifically. From the examples above, we can safely draw to the conclusion that it is the thinking out of convention that bring us the groundbreaking revolution of the science and change the entire world.
Furthermore, in personal aspect, we need to show others of our talents and specialness if we want to become successful. In order to succeed, people sometimes need to promote their special skills and show others their shining points. And the fear of being different is always the biggest obstacle in the way to success. The example of my brother matches my viewpoint perfectly. My brother has a rather beautiful voice and he is very good at singing. But he used to be too shy to sing in front of any one except of his family members. He was afraid of failure and the laugh and humiliating of the people. But once, my father applied a singing competition for him. And he was totally freaking out and refused to attend anyway. However, with the persistent encouraging and inspiring of our family, he finally agreed to attend. On that day, he was so nervous that he can not even speak to us. Interestingly, after the words of the song coming of his throat, he gradually calmed down and seemed totally lost in the singing. His performance was so perfect that he won the second award in the competition. We all amazed by his voice and were so proud of him. Later on, my brother gets more and more confident and out-going and never afraid of singing in front of others any more. He becomes very distinctive and popular in his school and wins a large number of awards for it. He feels so grateful of my father for his decision. With no doubt, the changing of my brother has greatly inspired me to stick on my stand point that we should be braver to show our uniqueness in order to succeed.
Admittedly, sometimes being like other has certain merits, such as it can avoid the isolation and critiques of others and reduce the discordance and confliction. However, it is the braveness of sticking to truth of nature and one’s deep principle make the person truly success.
In a word, in the modern world, the originality and specialness is playing an increasingly important role in achieving success for both the individual and the society.
