The lecture is mainly discussing whether some paintings attributed to Rembrandt were actually painted by him. By challenging what is stated in the reading passages that some paintings would not Rembrandt’s authentic work, the lecturer listing contradictory reasons to the reading.
      
First of all, the lecturer think that the expensive fur collar which the woman wear in the painting wasn’t original part of the painting, someone may added it hundreds years after the painting to increase the value of the painting.

        

Secondly, the lecturer try to explain why in this painting the light and shadow do not join together. When remove the added collar, the original painting could be seen, in the original painting, the woman wear a simple collar with light color, which reflect the light to the woman’s face, this is why the woman’s face is not in partial of the shadow. In this sense, light and shadow joined perfectly, that is just Rembrandt’s style.

Finally, the lecturer talk about the wood panel. When the fur color added, the wood panel also enlarged with extra wood pieces to make the painting more grand and more valuable. So the original painting is actually painted on a single piece of wood panel as we be expected for Rembrandt’s painting. And, in fact, researcher found that the wood panel used in the painting is come from the same tree as another painting by Rembrandt.

The contents of the reading passage are disputed by the speaker and the speaker has totally different ideas on the topics made in the reading.
