1.23 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is better to make friends with intelligent people than with people who have a good sense of humor.

A friend with high intelligence or a friend with a good sense of humor? The issue in the topic seems to go too extremely. For my part, I think intelligence and a good sense of humor are two major qualities which I value a lot and I would choose those intelligent guys with good sense of humor as my friend.

Firstly, I would like to explain why I would not choose intelligent people without good sense of humor. Although intelligent people could gain great success in the academic field or probably they are good at solving some urgent problems, as things among friends, good sense of humor could easily produce chemistry to strengthen the friendship. Who does not want to have a friend always bringing laughter? Who wants to make friends with those who could only explain problems rigidly? Friends always require entertainment which a good sense of humor could bring.

Secondly, as mentioned above, the reason of why I would not choose a stupid guy who could only make others laugh as my friend is obvious. If a person always bring you stupid troubles other than solve your problems or he or she could not understand your words but just ask why all day long, would you still make your choice to make friends with this person? I would not. A clever friend could bring you solutions when you are in trouble and his or her intelligence would make the communication between you two much easier, sometimes you even have a tacit understanding to each other.

In fact, I deem that intelligence and good sense of humor are two undivided qualities for a person as a friend. As referred above, intelligent friend would offer you solutions for your emergency, while at the same time a good sense of humor also means being thoughtful, which could increase the interest among friends and make you feel released when you are in depression. Therefore, any one of these two qualities can not be omitted from my standard of making friends.

In conclusion, unlike the extreme topic, I choose a eclectic and comprehensive answer. That is--as my friend, he or she must be both intelligent as well as humorous.
