2.6 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Teachers should not show their political or social views known in the classroom.
Should teachers present their political or social views known in the classroom? This is a long held dispute. For my part, I could not lend my support to the issue in the topic for that it has gone too extreme. Although in most of the situations teachers should play a neutral role in the classroom, it is quite important for students to form some normal political or social views with the favor of teachers.
Admittedly, it is no denying that it is inappropriate for teachers to show too much of their political or social penchant in the class under most of the conditions. Due to their much more plentiful social experience, teachers, as other adults, gain various attitudes towards our society and politics, some of which may be fair and just, others of which, however, may be unfair or even evil. What's more, sometimes they may assume too aggressive in front of their students. Therefore, holding a neutral position is the role teachers should attain.
Additionally, as students, we have the right and should have the chance to perceive the society we live in and the political policies ourselves. What we should take charge of in the school is just to learn the universal principles of our nature other than to be trapped into unrelated personal views about the society or politics. Too much views about society and politics from our teachers may not only occupied much time which should have been spent on our study but also force us form negative inclination about everything outside campus. We are gradually growing up and one day we will certainly step out of schools, which is also the process we get to know our society and politics. Thus too much social or political views should be refused in the classroom.
Nevertheless, not only as a student but also one social members at the same time, it is really beneficial for teachers to impart some of the normal and common views towards our society and politics. For example, some moral standards which still have not faded after thousands of years can help students form positive attitudes towards life. Always being accommodating to those in need is one in case. Moreover, the sense of patriotism renders so important in the youth education that it can never be neglected from teachers' syllabus.
By and large, under most of the conditions it is not proper for teachers to show their social or political views in the classroom which may be prejudice, because it is unfair for students to establish their own points of view with second-handed information. But to some basic social or political views, teachers should take the responsibility to impart them to students.
