Improving schools is the most important factor of successful development of a country
When asked about what is the most important factor of successful development of a country, different people hold different opinions. Witnessing how America has benefited from a well developed educational system, present day many people envision education as the primary factor that has been, since the Second World War, of unquestionable greatest importance of development of a country. As far as I am concerned, this viewpoint is tenable. My reasons are as follows.
To start with, it is from school that individuals acquired the basic and specific knowledge, as well as the related skills, to sustain their living. My major was chemical engineering, and it was in college that I learned the basic knowledge of math, physics, chemistry, and specific disciplines such as units of operation, chemical thermodynamics. Also, to better finish the assignments given by the professor, I went to the library and surfed the internet, in which process I found out the best way to get access to information I need. This skill is still essential to my present job since the knowledge in my field is ongoing updated. Without a good education system most people, including me, could not have been so qualified, and our nation will face the crisis of lacking sufficient highly competent employees.
Also, it is widely acknowledged that how students are socialized today determines the future of a society. And no nation could socialize its young people well if they fail to pay enough attention to providing people with a good learning environment. When we are children, we have no idea about how to communicate effectively with others and how to construct and sustain the relationship with people around us. It is the frequently needed cooperation and competition in classroom, every day our casual chat with our friends, the occurrence of quarrels and conflicts and the later efforts we made to make a remedy that, we, consciously or unconsciously, gradually begin to understand how should we heave in a group. So important a role school is playing in socializing children that no nation could afford to ignore it.
What's more, if a nation does not provide people with satisfactory educational system, chances are that the smartest students in it will turn to other nations which could better train them into useful people. China is notorious for its exam-oriented education system, which speaks highly of conformity while discourages innovation. This has driven many bright students to taking IBT, SAT and GRE tests in pursuit of a better platform, which is undoubtedly a great loss for China.
All analysis mentioned above justifies the unshakable conclusion that improvement of school is the most important factor of successful development of a country.
