64The following appeared in a memo from the Dean of the College of Education at Omni State University.

"Only seven of our state's high schools offer even one course in Latin, but over 80 percent of the graduates who study Latin at those seven schools enroll in college. Furthermore, a recent study shows that students who have mastered Latin perform much better in logic and critical thinking. Thus, in order to increase the percentage of our high school students who graduate from college as well as to ensure that they receive a better education in critical thinking, Omni State University should begin an intensive program to prepare our future teachers to teach high school Latin."

The author asserts that in order to increase the persentage of students graduate from college
; improve their in critical thinking and ensure them better education, Omni State University should begin an intensive program to cutivate theachers. To justify the viewpoint the arguer proposed that firstly the proportion between course and the students in Latin is so low, furhtermore the students master Latin are more outstanding in logical and critical thinking, which lead to over 80 % of the graduates enroll in colleges. From my perspective, I consider the argument rests on a series of unresonable assumptions , thus the argument is unbelievalbe as it stands.

Firstly, although 80% of the graduates that study Latin enroll in college,we could not draw a conclusion that the individuals are more excellent in academic realm. In the first place, the author do not demonstrate that the quantity of the sample, what if the group just enroll 5 people, so even if the proportion achieves 80%, the staff is nonsence in statistics, for it is too small. In the second place the writer seems has not draw a comparison between the graduates and other crowd ,such as the adolescent studying calliography, painting, WuShu, because the graduates among those group may show more prodigious capacity in logical and critical thinking.

Furthermore, it is conspicuous that the investigation could not illustrate the ambiguous relationship between Latin and the performance in studying.Since there are various possibilities could not be ruled out,for instance, the people that accept Latin education may be the elite of student as their own , which lead to their remarkble records no matter in Latin learning or other principles. So it may be the spirital facors help them achieve success instead the Latin coarse. Deng Ya-Ping is a well known female sportsman in Ping Pong, she obtain much honor from her career. When her sport life came to an end, she choose learning knowledge as her further pursuit and finally received her docter degree in England. When she was interviewed secret of her success, she always replys “spirit”, rather than Ping pong

The last but not the least is the concrete target of increase of the coarse is obscure, for we know that the propotion between high schools and the Latin courses is 7 to 1, but how do you know the proportion is unresonable and what proportion is resonable? In addition the writer ignores the different interest and aptitudes of the students and their physical conditions, for not all the youngsters fit to this coarse.

To sum up the reasoning is logical flawed and incredible to an extent, unless the author provide more information could it convince me.
