Newspapers and magazines are the best wayof learning about a foreign country.

When asked about what is the best way oflearning about a foreign countries, many people would recommend readingnewspapers and magazines. China born and China bred, I strongly oppose to thecommon belief as mentioned above. In my view depending on the newspapers andmagazines to explore more about a foreign country is risky. To learn more abouta nation one needs to pay attention to various information sources.

Admittedly, reading newspapers andmagazines is indeed an efficient way to form an overall impression on a nationquickly. From them we could know what is happening in this nation and what dopeople in this nation think about the government, their life and so on. However, when compared with its potential drawbacks, the merits no longer mean thatmuch.

What many people fail to realize is that inless democratic nations, China for example, newspapers and magazines are morea government's brainwashing tool than medias objectively reporting everythinghappening around the nation. One of my friends once joked that opening anynewspaper in China one could only see two things: what the leaders of thegovernment are busy doing and how people's lives have been improved enormouslythanks to the government's efforts. Hardly could one meet any criticism ,complainsor depictions about the dark side of the society.Obviously, if foreigners inChina regard the remarks they see in the newspapers and magazines as themainstream opinions, they are way too optimistic about the the Chinese people'sliving conditions.

Besides, when it comes to "bestway", what we can not ignore is that there are many other alternative methodsof getting to know a foreign country. For example, we could pay attention topeople's wearing on the street. This will help us tell whether a nationencourages conformity or individuality--people in New York dress themselves updiversely while people in North Korean do not to have much choices on clothing. Also, they could open a history textbook and compares the contents in thetextbook with the facts widely acknowledge by the world, to see a nation'sattitude towards its past. The more information one have access to, the lesslikely she or he will be misled by some distorted or carefully selected informationprovided.

From what has been mentioned above, it issafe to draw the conclusion that newspapers and magazines are not the best wayof learning about a foreign country.

Newspapers and magazines are the best wayof learning about a foreign country.

When asked about what is the best way oflearning about a foreign countries, many people would recommend readingnewspapers and magazines. China born and China bred, (没见过前面这种用法) I strongly oppose to thecommon belief (common belief不恰当 popular opinion)as mentioned above. In my view depending on the newspapers andmagazines to explore more about a foreign country is risky. To learn more abouta nation one needs to pay attention to various information sources.

Admittedly, reading newspapers andmagazines is indeed an efficient way to form an overall(好词) impression on a nationquickly. From them we could know what is happening in this nation(这个句子很恰当) and what dopeople in this nation think about the government, their life and so on.(前面这两个词用得不好,觉得用what are the issues people care about most in the present time) However, when compared(应为after compared/when comparing) with its potential drawbacks(好词), the merits(靓词) no longer mean thatmuch.
What many people fail to realize is that inless democratic nations, China for example, newspapers and magazines are morea government's brainwashing tool (老大,这个说法太偏激了,洗脑的工具??!个人认为这样的言论并不能获得rater好的评价,而且用在考试作文中是一个冒险的举动,文章尽量多写Positive的内容)than medias objectively reporting everythinghappening around the nation.

(兄弟,你的tone and style太radical了,喜欢剑走偏锋,请想想上面关于中国媒体的评价能得到美国或中国rater的appreciate and respect吗?道理是正确的,但是例证是improper的)

Besides, when it comes to "bestway", what we can not ignore is that there are many other alternative (用得好)methodsof getting to know a foreign country.

总结:UU语言表达还是很地道的,值得学习。但是就主旨来说还是不够到位,当然也是个人浅见,如有不对,请指正。
