Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?  The purpose of television should all be educative, not entertain.' T
There has been a fierce debate on the functions of television programs. Some people believe that all the programs should be broadcasted on purpose of education, while others just hold an opposite opinion that the television programs should also entertain people. As far as I am concerned, despite the fact that educative function is very important, entertaining audience is still a significant consideration for TV programs since entertainment and education do not contradict with each other naturally and what’s more important, interesting programs help to relieve the heavy pressure we endure in our life.
In the first place, funny TV programs make it possible for us to entertain ourselves, an indispensible channel to get rid of burdens and get relaxed. When blamed by our picky bosses, TV shows like Mr. Bean can make us laugh to tears and forget about the annoying things bothering us. When hurt by our beloved ones, love comedies like Pretty Woman make us deeply touched by the power of true love, as well as regain the trust of love. If all the programs appearing on the screen are educative, in what way can we release our pressure this competitive society put on us?
No one would like to turn on the TV and watch a program of content like ‘how to solve a math problem’ or ‘how to behave in the office’.

In addition, the purpose of education can be combined with entertaining since people are more likely to be influenced when feeling relaxed, thus providing programs like this a great chance to influence the audience gradually, unnoticed as well as more efficiently. The best illustration is a famous Chinese cartoon about the story of a cat and his friends and every story is accompanied by the basic knowledge of a scientific theory. it connects education and entertainment so successfully that it has gained great popularity among not only children but also adults.
However, what should also be kept in mind is that TV programs do have the responsibility to attribute knowledge and they can even do better than traditional ways like books and lectures. A well-known example involves the famous program ‘Discovery’, which introduces advanced research results of all scientific fields, attracting audience with not only their detailed script but also pictures and videotapes.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that though education should be considered, entertaining audience is also very important for TV programs. The best way to solve this dilemma is just trying to combine both the purposes together.
