In order to solve the problems of the present and future, it is necessary to understand the past.

A saying goes "Past is a mirror that shows the figure of the present and future". I agree with this saying. This saying tells us that we should learn from the past. We can always find out common things between the present and future and the past, and to some extent the past can give us help and instruct our behavior.
Firstly, understanding well about the past can help us to know ourselves well. The more a person has experienced, the more mature he is. Everyone has experienced lots of things in the past. They have met happiness and sadness, success and failure. No matter what things a person has experienced, the things are the painters who will show different characteristics of this person and will show the advantages and the disadvantages of this person. If  a person wants to know himself well, he should understand his past and analyze himself in the past. There is a saying goes "The biggest enemy of a person's is himself". If a person understands himself well, he has advantages to overcome himself. And a person who can overcome himself will be a success in the future and at present. A real success will not ignore any of his experiences. Actually, we should see every experience like an experiment that will shows some aspects of our characteristics.

Secondly, there are lots of common things between the present and future and the past. It seems that the things we met, the things we are meeting and the things we will meet are absolutely different things. But there are some principles and associations beneath the surface of the different things. If we can know the principles and associations, we can predict the way of how a thing that we have never seen goes. And the things that we have met are just like samples from that we can find out the principles and associations. Just as the test book has told us "A theory comes from practice that will be guide by the theory". So we can use the principles and associations that we get from the past to instruct our behavior at present and in the future.

Thirdly, just as what a person should do, a country should also emphasize the importance of the past. Any failures and successes should be analyzed to guide what we should do at present and in the future. In history, almost every successful and great king is a person who had read a lot of history books. To some extent, we can say that history is knowledge and knowledge is power.

However, emphasizing the importance the history does not means that we should simply imitate what we have done in the past. After all, the world and ourselves are changing all the time. The things in different periods have different conditions. Simply imitating the past will makes us fail at last.

So we should not be confused by the different faces of the things, but try to find the common things under the surface, hold it and use it. That is what we should learn from the past.

We can always find out common things among the past, present and future, and to some extent, not only can the past  give us help, but also it instructs our behavior.

Firstly, understanding well about the past can help us to know ourselves better. The more a person has experienced, the more mature he is. Everyone has undergone lots of things in the past ranging from happiness and sadness to success and failure. No matter what a person has came across, the experiences are a painter who could outline different characteristics of the person and could show the merits and flaws of the person. If a person wants to know himself well, he should understand his past and analyze himself in the past. There is a saying goes "The strongest enemy of a person's is himself". If a person understands himself well, he has advantages to overcome himself. And a person who can overcome himself will be a successful man in the future and at present.
