"The arts (painting, music, literature, etc.) reveal the otherwise hidden ideas and impulses of a society."

I strongly agree with the contention that the art such as painting and music reveal the hidden ideas and impulse of the society. In my opinion, art are the symbol and external expression of human
thought and activity. These artists, which created these arts, are inspired and influenced by the society, so they would express these ideas and thought about the society though their works. Therefore, the art could reflect the ideas and impulses of the society, as well as the human individual of the society.

Architecture, as an kind of art which have originated and developed since the culture of human being created, not only simply designd and built to provide us dwellings for living, but also play an important role of reflecting the ideas and belief of the society at that time. From the ancient time to the nowadays, long generation of architect try to build the architecture to fulfill the request of the society. So its appearance, shape, function, and even architecture itself, reflect the inner ideas and impulse of the society. For instance, the pyramids of Egypt are no doubt one of the world’s greatest architecture in the world. Their grand buildings were designed to rise toward the star and the moon, and were built as tall as they could. It actually show people’s reverence to the heaven and the god, and reflect their strong hope of longevity.

Music, another form of art, plays a much more important part in human life. in modern society, from the United states to south Africa pop music have been favored by a large group of people. people listen songs to feel better because songs sometimes speak out some true trend of daily life, even though most people can feel it. not every one can present it. pop music singer do it it reflect what people think, what people desire, and also the thought influence the development of the society.

Another kind of art that also largely express the ideas and thoughts of the society and the people is literature. No matter what kind of literature it is, from novel to prose, they are all the expression and reflection of the writers’ thought and ideas toward the society, and we could get the real condition of the society and the internal ideas and impulse of people in the society. For example, the novels of LuXun, which is the most famous writer and patriot in the 1900’s china, well expose the internal thought and ideas of the citizen at that age, which is a apathetic way toward other and the county. In his novel, he criticized for that ideas and invoke citizens to fight for their country. LuXun’s novel ,as well as other artist, was view as master just because their work could express these thought and edify people to think.

From the above, the important of art is clearly been seen. Different kind of arts all shares the function and duty to reveal the inner ideas and impulse of the society, as well as the people. And only when the art was combine with the thought of the society, it could then be view as meaningful.
