Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A lower-paying job with shorter hours that would give you more vacation time is better than a high-paying job with long hours that would give you less vacation.


Perhaps no issue in this world is as significant to employees as job. Despite various responses people may have on the topic concerning the issue regarding which choice would be more advantageous, given the chance, I agree a lower-wage job with more vacation is better than a high-wage job with less vacation, when taking more advantages of the former one into account.

I concede that a high-paying job is quite attractive sometimes. To illustrate this, there is an appropriate example. A person, whose salary is not enough to support his or her family life and even just himself or herself, desires for a higher-wage job no matter how difficult it is and no matter how long it requires him to work, since the most important thing is not the length of vacation from the person’s standpoint. Therefore, in this case high salary could be more helpful. However, Significant though the advantages of a high-salary job less vacation sometimes are, they can not compete with the benefits of a lower-paying job with long free time bring about.

First of all, one disadvantage of a long hour job comes from that it may harmful to our health. Since not machines, even machines need some rest in case of damage, we need vacation to relax and enjoy our life with families or friends. In order for fine health, most people would rather choose a more vacation job even though the salary is relatively lower. For instance, a person, whose job is researching chemistry in a chemistry lab, should not work for long time, since some elements of certain chemical substances are considerably bad for one’s health. Therefore, important though the money is, our health and life is more precious.

In addition, with long vacation we could enrich ourselves. In our leisure time, we could hang out with families or friends exchanging emotions, experience and so forth, which is an important and essential part in our life. Also, we could pay a visit to other places not only to enjoy the charming sceneries but also to be acquainted and communicate with the people with other cultures or literatures. Thus, a long vacation occupation could allow us enjoying more meaningful life.

All in all, seen from what has been discussed above, in my perspective of view, a job with more vacation time is more competent than it with less free time, even if the salary is lower, when several undeniable benefits of former one, such as good health and meaningful life, taken into account.
