Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Younger school children (ages five to ten) should be required to study art and music in addition to math, science, history and language.

For younger school children, whether they should be ask to learn art and music besides math, science, history and language? In other word, what is the purpose to study art and music? Based on my experience, it is for seeking better personal development and creating high quality life. So it is necessary to learn art and music for five to ten years old students.

In aspect of personal development, it could be benefit from art and music. The end of education is the development of personal power. Through learning natural science and social science, intellectual power will be deeply developed. It is hard to say that it is totally enough. the development of moral strength is equally important. The process of moral development begins from studying art and music. In the book of The Education of Karl Witte, for instance, little Karl got his moral education from visiting art galleries, natural museums and manner of manufacturing establishments and reading literary works. All the poems from the golden period of German poetry inculcated noble actions, sacrifices for others, friendship, and so forth. He learned them easily and made their contents completely his own. He grew up as a well-rounded man.

Art and music bring people high quality life without boring. For adult, studying art and music for enhance the quality of their lives means very timing cost. At the same time, it is impossible to do this for most people. So it is necessary to learn art and music when they are younger school children. Their first doing things is to study kinds of knowledge. So they could reduce time spending in math, science, history and language and thus increase time to play musical instruments, read literary works, painting and so on. In this process, they will have fun and share fun with their friends, even increase their skill of communication and building friendship. I just knew my best friend through this way. In six years, I joined a class of teach to play piano and met Sara. Because of the same interest in playing piano, we are good friends. We often play piano together in weekend and spend a good time. It never is boring and having nothing to do for us.

There is one point that we need to pay attention that younger school children never be compelled to study art and music. It is fact that most children do not have a kind of gift in art and music. They just are common children. If they could not joint art and music, school and parents should respect their choice and allow them to do something what they wonder.

In totally, it is worthily recommended to learn art and music for five to ten-year children.
