红DELTA----TEST3 ESSAY
题目:科学家和艺术家谁对社会贡献大
请猛批啊,先谢谢啊:)
Personally speaking, the contribution of one factor to the society is depended on the influence it made on human development. Over tens of thousands of years of evolution, we went through apps ,cavemen to humankind. Using of tools has been interpreted as a sign of intelligence, and it has been theorized that tool use may have stimulated certain aspects of human evolution—most notably the continued expansion of the human brain. It was the tool not the picture on the cave that stimulate the human evolution. Similarly, civilization went through hunting and gathering, agricultual society, industrial revolution, post industrial era. It was the technology that changed the world dramatically. And it was scientist who invented these technologies.
Our life would not have been so fascinating at night if Thomas Edison had not care about people’s welfare and invented the light bulb. Thomas Edison was an American inventor, scientist who developed many devices like the long-lasting, practical electric light bulb. He was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and large team work to the process of invention. “The miracle of the millennium was providing light and power to the masses.” After surviving 300 failures, Edison and his team discovered a carbonized bamboo filament that could last over 1200 hours. He said “we will make electricity so cheap that only the rich will buy candles.”In addition to the electric light bulb, Edison created the phonogragh, the storage batteries, telegragh systems and a wide variety of other products. By now, Edison was being hailed world wide as the Wizard of Menlo Park, The Father of Electrical Age and the greatest inventor who ever lived.
In 1905, Einstein’s name became synonymous with “genius” when his special theoty of Relativity challeged old concepts in physics. More than 300 years ago, Isaac Newton showed that the force that makes apples fall is the same as the gravity that holds planet in their orbits. Newton’s mathematics were good enough for us to fly rockets into space and steer probes around planets- but some scientsits questioned that at very high speeds, or in very strong gravitym his theories didn’t quite work. So , along came Einstein, whose theory of Relativity offered deeper insights into the nature of gravity, space and time. Science has often challenged and upset conventional wisdom or accepted practices, and that contributed to the progress of human beings.
The development of science and technologyhas always accompanied the progress of the society. The invention the steam engine brought a new era of thrift of world economy; the employ, emt of electricity has multiplied the productivity and virtually reproduced limited resouced on the Earth; the innovation of computer techonologied has made the Earth a little village and connected distant countries as a single market. The development of science has provided people a much higher standard of living than that of their counterparts in any phrase of the history.
Admittedly, artists also contributed to our society. As Pablo Picasso put it “"The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls." Art is the aesthetic that balances our intellect. The beauty, the provocateur, the teacher, the stress reducer, the attention increaser, art is the higher purpose of our endeavor. However, when the contribution artists made in human history compared to those of scientists, pales. |
