"Over the past century, the most significant contribution of technology has been to make people's lives more comfortable."

With the development of science and technology, more and more facilities are created. Although the benefits of these innovation are direct and obvious, the negative aspects should not be ignored as well. In my point of view, the most significant contribution of technology lies in its positive impacts on the improvement of people's lives, while its other negative by-products do harm to people's overall well-being.

First and foremost, with the invention of more and more labor-saving equipments,  our human beings has relieved from boring and tedious work, and have an enhanced quality of life. We can easily imagine what the world would be without development of technology. Specifically, without light bulbs, we would still sleep early as soon as the night comes; without mass-production,  we would not enjoy sufficient amount of products and various choices when do shopping; without cars, the transport between provinces would take great time, not to mention transport between nations; without mobile phone, Interpersonal communication would not be so effective. It is technology that facilitates us dramatically and rise the level of well-being significantly.

Secondly, technology enjoys a positive circle, that is , basing on the former development , new inventions would come into being more effectively. As far as I know, Technology development give birth to a crucial invention which has and will have profound and ever-lasting influence on a wide field, arranged  from the whole nation to the individuals. That is internet. For a specific example, it is the improvement in technology that enrich the academic and professional world with more efficient information. Researchers no longer need to dig in the library for a whole to find out a small number of relevant books and then take another great part of time to go though all content in the books to find only a small amount of useful information. With the help of internet, which should be accompanied by  another great invention of technology, neither should they leave their home or office, nor they might not waste great time and effort to accomplish the preliminary tasks. A myriad of information is accessible in the internet and available whenever and wherever. As a result, both the academic and professional can enjoy the convenience, which will to great contribution to a new round of technology development. Both the previous and the present technology has made  people's lives more comfortable, so would the future technology.

Admittedly, the passive influence such as more pressure and new kinds of crime should be taken into full consideration. It is a common phenomenon that people always complain the pressure that accompanies with the technology development. Nowadays, people has never feel so stressful than ever before- rapid pace of life, work, even entertainment. Many would miss the primitive period when human can live a life with much fewer anxious and desires. What is lost might be what is most precious. When we enjoy the convenience technology has generate, we would always miss some aspects such as sound environment, less pressurable life and more tight of interpersonal relations. In this perspective, we can condemn technology to its negative impacts on individuals' utilities.

All in all, a myriad of subjects are two-edged sword, and technology is not an exception. We should cherish the high quality of life compared with previous. Meanwhile, we can make further improvement on technology to solve the by-product problem.
