issue224.“Censorship is rarely, if ever, justified.” (40min  words: 374)
Whether censorship is justified or unjustified, in my view, it all depends. Althourg there goes moments that censorship seems not so justified, such as when the minority suppress their ideas on the whole society, most of the time, I believe, censorship is justified.
For a nation, there should always be a government whose responsibility is to solve its citizens problems, and to improve the development of the whole society. Then, things often come that the minority of citizens, who have the authority, deny some ideas or suppress their own ideas to the majority of citizens by the tool of censorship. It is certainly unjustified since there should be no one to define whether other’s idea is right or wrong. Especially when the minority of citizens have some purpose for doing this, which would be in their own interests rather than the majority, censorship seems so week that it can never convince people its justification.
Additionally, from children to adults, we always experience the process of growth-up mentally. So there can be new and creative ideas after we think about the humanity, or the universe. But if the government take into account the censorship that tells us which should not be thought of, or which should never achieve, then it would restrict our images and decline our abilities to create new ideas. As a result, censorship in this case, either can not be justified, at least to the children and teenages.
However, we have to concede the importance of censorship. There have been full of bad things in the world. Many books are harmful to our hearts, many movies disturbe our mind, also lots of video games are indulging our children; things like that become very common today. It is the censorship which can keep us away from those harmful things. For instance, you can not say making or selling video games is illegetive action; there is no law to restrict it. But the fact is more and more children become indulged in it, which have already affect their schooling, their health and so on. Without the censorship, things will be worse.
In short, censorship may hurt the majority due to its unjustification in some situations, but it is necessary to our life after all.
