Education encourages students to question and criticize, and therefore does little to promote social harmony.

------正文------
Should educators encourage our students to question and criticize? The speaker claims that to do so will do no good for the social harmony, which seems really appealing at the first glance. However, I contend that this issue is a much complex one, which calls for analysis from several aspects before reaching at a conclusion. In my viewpoint, encouraging the young students to be of more questions and more critical, if controlled well, is not necessarily destructive to the harmony of our society at large.

To begin with, let us draw an explanation on social harmony. From my angle, social harmony lies in mutual understanding rather than absolute conforming. In the society at large, there is a common misconception that harmony stands for no sound different of the orders told by the leaders or managers in any place, for disagreements always leads to disputes, sometimes too rough to control for the managers. So masses of managers or leader will dislike disagreement and even choose to prohibit those disharmonious factors, by punishing these who disobey them and forbid them to speak their own thoughts in public. However, this is out of lacking of ability to deal with the situation, which is usually harmful to promote new ideas. In my opinion, a harmonious society is not afraid of conflicting views or critic viewpoints for even though everyone in it holds questions about the authorities or managers, they will arrive at a agreement eventually as a result of persuading or understanding each other. Conformation and obedience at all time is latently dangerous while it seems peaceful under current situation in that these compression leads to discontent about the leadership, which will at last conduce to antagonism and once these hidden factors of instability accumulates to a certain level, it will bust out a rebel or reformation. Thus prohibiting different sound and criticize promote no harmony and there is no need to prevent the students from raising questions at school.

Moreover, we can never neglect the effects of stimulating students' capcity to questioning the authorities and making critical comments on issues in both academic fields and social realms. Firstly, to raise a question means a good comprehension of a problem and furthermore, a creative thinking about it. Teachers’ encouraging these young persons to produce questions stimulates their interests to think independently and creatively, which is helpful to students’ productive thinking, and this way of teaching at the same time makes students more sensitive about problems, which is essential to innovations. The great Italian scientist Galileo serves a good example. If without his disbelieving attitude towards Aristotle’s free-fall theory, we may still be trapped in the fallacious theory, and even worse, the science would have not developed so fast.

However, it is necessary for education to prevent students to be as critical as to the challenge everything without speculation, which stands for self-rightfulness and a disorder in judging criterions. A hasten question without careful thinking over an issue is detrimental to students' development because it only brings in an emotional thinking habit rather than a rational one, which may produce not only disorder but also an ambience of impulsive study or research. Consequently, this kind of students will probably make disharmony factors in the society at large later when they graduate, which represents a kind of failure of education also.

To sum up, it is to some extent beneficial to encourage students to question properly and even desirable to cultivate students' capability to criticize righteously, which does not doom in degrade social harmony. In contrast, from mentioned above, these encouragements and guidance is inductive to nurse students’ independent thinking and bring about these young's latent ability of innovation.
