With the development of technology, there are a lot of ways for people to communicate with each other. The most fundamental way is through language. In my opinion, the most efficient method to communicate an idea or value to others is through language, not the use of images.

First of all, language is direct and convenient for us to express our idea or value. For a person, the first effort to communicate is through making sound, which means people tend to express their ideas by language. Also for those who receive the information are willing to understand the idea through language. All these are human's instinct. Moreover, it is difficult to communicate a very complicated idea or value only through images. The words of language are so affluent that they are able to express any complex ideas of the speakers, which cannot be achieved by several images. For example, all the famous literatures are written by language. With the proper use of words, the writers can provide us a vivid world of their creative imaginations. Nevertheless, the spirits world of the writers cannot be expressed to the readers through images. Thus, language is effective to express people's ideas or values, especially some complicated ideas.

Furthermore, the way of different people consider the same idea is much different from each other, so that when facing the same images, people may attain different information, which is not similar with what the speaker wants to express. Take a caricature as an example. Someone may consider it very creative and satiric and can fully understand the drawer's ideas. However, others may not comprehend what the drawer wants to express or what they understand may be not the same as the drawer's ideas. In this situation, the communication through images is not effective, even misleading. In addition, sometimes it is difficult to express one's ideas such as a scientific theory through images. The definition of a scientific theory may be very simple. However, the explanations are usually written with pages of words, which means only the use of images cannot simply provide the ideas of the theory. Therefore, in the process of communication, people may gain the wrong information only through images and it is very difficult for images to express every stuff clearly.

Admittedly, images may help people to understand others' ideas or values. Sometimes people may not understand others only through language. Images are vivid and visual, which is backdrop of language. For example, for the young students, it is difficult for them to understand the complex contents of the textbooks only through the words on them. Usually the textbooks are illustrated with a lot of images, which prompt the students to comprehend the complicated scientific theory and knowledge. Moreover, the vivid images may easily draw students' attention, which leads them to focus on the textbooks. Hence, aiming at different ages of people in different situations, images may promote people to understand other's ideas or values.

To sum up, in my opinion, the most effective way to communicate ideas or values is through language. Because it is not only direct but also convenient to express one's thoughts by language, especially when the thoughts are complex. However, the use of images may make it easier for people to comprehend other's ideas or values.
