*a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.

Who gives society the lasting value? Different people hold different views on this issue. Some persons prefer artist, while others tend to choose critic. After the careful analysis presented below on this topic I get the conclusion that the lasting increase of art level in the society calls for both of these two kinds of people.
First of all, artist, as the creator of the artwork, obviously plays an essential role in the arts. From their works instilled by their intelligence, time and passion, the human being's society gains the lasting beauty, reality and some other precious entrainment touched by the authors, which present the everlasting value in spirit. Take Beethoven for example, in his No.6 symphony, the Fields, we feel the beautiful scene in nature and naturally love all the beauty in this world; in the No.9 work, the Fate, the heated emotion caused by it encourages us to challenge our destiny. Actually, Beethoven's music always provides the people, the society, and the entire human being such great power that can help us know and reconstruct the world more confidently and passionately. This power will not diminish during the time, in contrary it represents more and more valuable in the river of history. That is just the lasting value given from artists through their works.
Secondly, the real value presented before us on the great work created the artist is always upon the discovery of critic. The beauty and value of artwork is always abstruse and hidden. With the discovery and evaluation of critic, the common people find the glory value in some artworks which were never noticed before. Von Gogh’s story is a typical representation on this phenomenon. Critics are just like a bridge which connects the spirits of artist and the society. They are the explorers of beauty. Without the effort of critics, many current great artists and works would have never been discovered and esteemed, saying noting of the lasting value.
Actually, the best way to treat this issue is emphasizing both the artists and the critics. As the government, the policy encouraging artist to create and providing sufficient funds should be continuously carried out, on the other hand, the enterprise of critics is also supposed to flourish. Only considering both of them equally, the more and more lasting value can be provided to our society.
Consequently, upon the analysis advocated and examples presented, we can arrive at the conclusion that both the artist and critic are necessary to the lasting value in the society. Neglecting any of them is erroneous and partial.
