I strongly agree with the speakers’ assertion that every discovery and progress is obtained through mistakes, whether in people's daily life, in scientific researches, or in social developments. However, blind overemphasis on the function of mistakes can be extremely harmful and restrict the discoveries and progresses. (case by case 的写法,这才是以不变应万变的王道啊。)
Firstly, people grow up and become mature through mistakes they made in their everyday life. According to the developmental psychologists, people learn a skill by simply trying every possible solution they can think of until they find (an efficient one to solve)the one that can effectively solve the problem they confront, that is, making enough mistakes and finally find the truth. There are abundant examples to support this theory in our daily life: The infants learn to successfully express their feelings by struggling to gain the attention of their parents by a host random actions; The adolescents attain proper social skills and build up self-confidence by numerous awkward conversations; (分号后面小写)The adults acquire adequate ability to deal with future challenges by experiencing the failures they made in work. Mistakes helps (help) people develop themselves and become mature which are great progresses. (上面那个排比不错,但是觉得例子不太恰当,尤其是第一个和第二个。)
Secondly, in scientific inquiry, mistakes play a crucial role in discoveries and progresses. Mistakes lie alongside the road (在路边上吗?) towards a discovery. The scientists make mistakes almost everyday but they do not afraid of making mistakes. Actually, learning through the mistakes is the way how most scientists work. Take Edison for example, he tried thousands of materials before he find the right one for the bulb (filament), (。分开)but the thousands of failed attempts are not just a waste of time, by analyzing the weakness of every failed material, that is, analyzing the mistakes have been made, the quality of the right material is gradually revealed. Mistakes in science are usually welcomed (欢迎?难说) for they can point out the way to discoveries.
Thirdly, in the development of the society, mistakes are lessons and warnings which are of great importance. By the war people learn the value of peace and develop moderate ways to solve international problems; by arbitrary policies people learn to fight against the tyrants and establish democratic governments; by the depression people know the inadequate of the economic system and develop methods to regulate economic condition effect economic stabilization. Without mistakes, our human society can hardly make a single progress and establish a relatively good society of wealth, liberty, and democracy which we are living in (不要一棒子打死一片!留有余地,留有余地啊).
However, overemphasis on the function of mistakes may bring about terrible effects. It may lead people to tolerant the mistakes made by themselves and others, waste precious energy and time in making similar or meaningless mistakes. Just making mistakes without contemplating what underlies the mistakes will do nothing good to (with) discoveries and progresses, and is very likely to check (check做什么解?) discoveries and progresses.
In conclusion, it is through mistakes, individuals, science as well as society develops, and it is through mistakes progress and discoveries are made. However going to the extreme of overemphasis on mistakes is dangerous and harmful.
