T6: "The most effective way to understand contemporary culture is to analyze the trends of its youth."

1. The author asserts that it is most effective to understand contemporary culture by analyzing the trends of its youth .At the first glance, it seems to be reasonable. But with further and critical thought, it turns out to be defective. The author missed the influence of culture itself. As far as I am concerned, to understand contemporary culture, a study of established traditions or customs and that of difficulties for the public to accept new manners of thoughts and behaviors plays a not only important but also necessary role.
2. Obviously, the youth are the most active and imaginative part of the culture; as a result, they have been always leading the trends of the society. It is the youth who are fond of, even a bit crazy about, new born things. They listen to the latest pop music; they wear fashioned clothes, they have diverse hair styles, sometimes they also follow the actions, which sometimes are on the right track, of “the eminent persons” in their opinion. In addition, every second, great amounts of new “words or phrases” are produced by young people who may be just for fun. The youth, born talent, create new methods of behavior, which would entertain their bored hearts and they express both their joy and unhappiness by all the time. Importantly, the youth are leading actors in the future. So, to analyze the minds of the youth is a most effective way to understand trends of developing contemporary culture and to know on which direction the society would probably go.
3. However, contemporary culture is not effected only by the youth, as, to some extent, the youth don’t play the greatest role in the development of the culture sometimes. They bring about alterative creatures, which, however, affect not the essential parts of the culture but certain tiny aspects. For instance, what they could affect always turns out to be hair styles, latest clothes fashion, strange words or idioms, or something alike; all these are often subordinate to the culture. Concerning diverse factors including widely and long spread ways of thinking, and effects of the outside world, which have reference to culture trend; it is too insufficient for the youth to affect the essential part of culture. As a result, under the depression of widely established means of thinking, too “active” thoughts and actions would have got beaten, as they are probably going beyond the limit the majority could bear. Only few of the public even few of the youth will accept the new thoughts and actions. A case in point, there is an increasing number of young individuals in recent years, which have got used to drug at an early age. Majority of the public are strongly against the trend, and take many effort to stop the trend, as it brings about not only damage to the youth themselves but also to the society, what’s more, it would cause a great amount of social problems.
4. Additionally, even though the new ways of thinking are compatible with the society, wide acceptance also needs a long period of time. The public, which is made up of mainly by adults who firmly stick to their own spirit and methods dealing with matters, are not likely to accept exceptionalnesses of the young people at the very beginning. Adults would oppose to young people and denounce them for “wrong actions” seriously. Only after a long period of ignorance of adults, which probably dues to grown-ups’ compromise, can the young show their new manners of actions without any denunciation. For instance, youth smoking is rare twenty or thirty years ago, but now, when walking alone the street, one can find scores of smoking youngsters. At first, parents criticized their children to smoke and punished them, but gradually, seeing the fact that their denunciation did not have some effect, the parents accepted youth’s new ways of behaviors as long as the ways were not defying the common laws of actions. However, it has already taken a long period of time.
5. In summary, after fully studying alterative traditions and customs of a culture, analyzing the positive aspects of trends of the youth is a most effective method to gain appropriate knowledge of how the culture or the society would be like in the future. On the other hand ,the negative aspects of the trends of the youth do not make any sense.
