41.Such nonmainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits play a vital role in society by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science.


In all ages, the nonmainstream areas, such as astrology, fortune-telling, and  
psychic and paranormal pursuits have existed and experienced many years. It,  
surely, has some effects on people's lives and development of the history and  
society. However, I strongly agree that nonmainstream areas play an important  
role in society. Because these theories are all generated by immature technology and hypothesis of fatuous people.

In the first place, we may find out that people who resort to fortune -
telling, astrology and such nonmainstream areas of inquiry unusually are ill  
educated and underclass of the society. In ancientry, since people do not know the technology and natural knowledge, they had mistakes to regard some natural phenomena as a ghost or a god showing its presence or power. For example,  
they thought the thunder as the god being angry and the rain was the weeping  
of the god. Because in that time, no one can tell the reason of these  
phenomena, all people believe these conceptions as a reality. Therefore, some  
wise persons relied on it to deceive people or make profits and even control  
people's thoughts and souls.

In the second place, the main reason, indeed, that why nonmainstream area of  
inquiry is favored by a few people is that it comforts people who worry about  
their destinies. Because of they being short of knowledge, many people who  
experienced tribulations or tragedies wanted to find out a method to solve  
their pains and make their lives a little better. So they in virtue of some  
ideas such as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic, etc to help them. For  
instance, they might depend on divinations to decide what kind of lives they  
were fit for, or they imprecated gods for giving their lucks and fortune. It  
is to say that these methods or fallacies are the spiritual backbones to those people.

In the third place, nonmainstream area of inquiry also plays an important role to satisfy people's curiosities about the unknow  world. Human naturally is  
curious about anything they do not know. Ancient did not have knowledge to  
realize the substance of the nature and the world, so they were wistfully to  
look for some methods of resolving these phenomena and satisfing the  
curiosity. Therefore, these nonmainstream disciplines such as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits were born and had some certain effects to solve and satisfy people's curiosities. However, along with the fast development of the technology and knowledge, the substances of these  
fallacies will be finally found by people.

In sum, from what has been discussed above, we may draw the conclusion that  
though the nonmainstream areas once existed long time and certainly played  
some roles in development of people's thoughts and society, they will be  
replaced by modern science and technology ultimately.
