------题目------
The following appeared in a memorandum from a dean at Omega University.
'Fifteen years ago, Omega University implemented a new procedure that encouraged students to evaluate the teaching effectiveness of all their professors. Since that time, Omega professors have begun to assign higher grades in their classes, and overall student grade averages at Omega have risen by thirty percent. Potential employers apparently believe the grades at Omega are inflated; this would explain why Omega graduates have not been as successful at getting jobs as have graduates from nearby Alpha University. To enable its graduates to secure better jobs, Omega University should now terminate student evaluation of professors.'
------正文------
In this memo, the arguer recommends that the university should stop the student evaluation to secure better graduates' better jobs. To support the assertion, the arguer cites the students' score increase and employers' believe about the grades. In addition, the arguer provide the compare with graduates from Alpha University nearby. However, the assertion suffers from several fallacies though it is convincing at first glance.

First of all, the arguer fails to establish the causal relationship between students' evaluation and the score increase. The rise just follows the implement of the policy for students to evaluation, but it is not necessarily the reason for score rise. It is possible that students spend more energy on their studies or that the curriculum these years are easier than before. If the arguer can not rule out these possibilities, we can not simply accept the assumption about causal relationship.

Secondly, no evidence that the arguer provides show employers believe about the grades. Attributing the less employment of graduates from Omega to the change of employers’ attitude about students' grades is oversimplified. There are many reasons concerning with employment ratio. It is possible that the whole country was experiencing a depression during late 15 years. It is also possible that the students from Omega are not the popular disciplines that the employers need.

Last but not least, the arguer compares the employment conditions between two universities, without providing any information about the previous data and about the difference between the two. It is possible that Alpha University had a high employment ratio than Omega University 15 years ago, when Omega had not adopted the policy of students' evaluation. Moreover, Alpha may have an advantage in business school which is now largely required by employers, while Omega's advantage is on literature. Without complete compare, we can not conclude that it is the policy that affected the employment of graduates indirectly.

In sum, the argument is not well reasoned. To lend more support to the argument, the arguer should provide the evidence to prove the causal relationship between the policy and the decline of the employment. Moreover, the arguer must afford more data to give a fair and complete compare between the two universities.
