The video camera provides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life that it has become a more important form of documentation than written records.

The speaker asserts that the video camera has become a more important form of documentation than written records. Is it the truth? As far as I am concerned, written records are still the more important documentation to record contemporary life than the video camera which provides an accurate and convincing record.

Admittedly, with the development of technology, more and more appliances are adopted in the process of producing video camera. People can now locate some needle vidicon on birds to record the habits and habitats of them. The whole world is totally different because of the new angle. With the help of a microscope camera people can easily document the split process of bacteria by a film. Documentaries concerning science and other fields provide people an accurate, vivid, and convincing way to record contemporary life.

However, not all the events can be record by films. Some emergencies are difficult to record. Even with the help of modern vehicles, the photographer may lose some important initiating things. So the video cameras sometimes are fragments about the events. While written records are not the case, journalists can review witnesses and then use this second-hand information, through careful analysis, provide an full-scale record. Take the 9.11 terrorists attack for example, no one knows what will happen next minute, or we can prevent that tragedy. So no exact video camera records about the attack is available. The only video record is shot by a photograph amateur. However, it is far enough to tell the public what had happened. The task to reveal terrorists’ violence lies on written records.
  
Further more, the costs of video camera are obviously higher than written records. Appliances and films are still far expensive by now for the common use of recording so many aspects of our contemporary society. While the journalists merely using their pens and notebooks can provide more efficient alternative.  

In sum, with further development of technology, video camera may become the major form of documentation by providing more accurate and convincing record. But now, for the limitation of equipments and high costs of the documentary, written records are still our optimized choice.
