177"The study of an academic discipline alters the way we perceive the world. After studying the discipline, we see the same world as before, but with different eyes."
=====================================
这样的题目也超时了 唉……
We are living in a complex but explainable world. It is the study of academic disciplines bestows knowledge on human being, which offers us new ways to perceive the world and lead people to new worlds.
The study of a discipline provides people new knowledge, and changes people’s perception of the world at all times. Since human ever existed, we never stop trying to interpret the world around us, and never stop endeavor to give every phenomenon a fair explanation. Our explanations vary with the development of human intelligence and the advancement of science. As people gradually accumulate the knowledge of different fields, they come more and more close to the truth, and get more and more precise understanding about the world. In the past, there are groups of people called alchemists who believe that with proper method, gold can be made out of other metals. They set big pots and threw different materials into it, expecting to see the gold. But, the emergence and progress of chemistry denied that kind of somewhat naive conviction. The chemists tell the world that the atom is the basic component of the world and cannot be altered, so that it is impossible to turn other metal into gold. When this concept was deeply rooted into every educated person's heart, modern physics comes about and reverses our view again. The physicists found that the atoms are dividable and alterable, so that it is completely possible for people to make gold out of other metal, of course, not simply with a pot and some mysterious spells. The changes mentioned above happened as people explore into different disciplines, which give us new eyes to look into the same world, and reflect the advancement of the way people perceive the world.
Further, the study of an academic discipline not only changes the way people explain certain phenomenon or deal with certain events, but also alters the way people interreact with the world. Thousands of years ago, people started to study the world with different methods, but not until recent hundreds of years, have significant discoveries been make. This breakthrough partly owed to Galileo, who throw the two balls from the top of the Pisa Leaning Tower. The simple action of throwing, break people's belief on the authority of the past, changes the way the scientists work, and opens a new era of experimental science. After Galileo, scientists stop just working by thinking, and start to consult the real world, by observations and experiments. And by this way, which the nowadays scientists are still using, myriad of discoveries and progresses have been made. Galileo's study of physics actually changes people's concept of science and scientific work, and provides people new ways to deal with the world.
In addition, the study of a discipline promotes the advancement of new technologies, which bring about new worlds in front of people. With the invention of telescope, people looks more clearly into the universe, and discover a world of planets, meteors, secondary planets, and star clouds, which is a world so splendid and marvelous; with the development of microscope, people find the world of cells, which is the basic component of every living creature, a world so complex and exquisite; and with the development of spacecraft, people get closer to the surface of other planet, a world of rocks and mountains, which may reveal the desolated past of the earth. These new worlds, which are fantastic and unbelievable, are now lying in front of us thanks to the new technologies which are results of science.
All in all, without the study of the academic disciplines, we may still believe in the old fictions and tales, study the world by feelings rather than experiments, and looking at the limited world with limited eyes. It is the study and inquire enable us to step forward everyday, perceive the world with new eyes, and find the new worlds. |
