Should all nations support the development of a global university, aiming at solving the world's most persistent social problems?  Although all nations might benefit from the proposed university, there lie a myriad of problems in actualizing such a special university.

A global university would save us much effort in combating problems universal to almost all societies, such as environmental issues, starvation, AIDS, and so forth. Take the environmental problem for instance. "Green House" effect is now posing threat to human existence: global climate has changed rapidly for the last decade, and consequent natural disasters, such as big floods, hurricanes, droughts, etc., have cost millions and billions of lives away, let alone the concomitant economic losses. For one thing, such a persuasive problem calls for the participation of all countries. Since no single country can absolutely isolate itself outside the cause and influence of "Green House" effect, all nations should sponsor the global university both for responsibility and necessity for survival. For another, many researches currently pointed at environmental problems have overlapped one another. To support a global university we may avoid such an awkward situation by gathering all the achievement of researches available, sharing them, and assigning different tasks to students. In short, calling for global participation of some pervasive problems, together with the concern to economize the financial and human resources, justify the existence of a global university.

Nonetheless, many foreseeable problems, if remain unsolved, would impede the development of such a global university and its expected goal. A threshold problem is the enrollment of students. Given the overall number of students is limited, then how to distribute the quota to various nations is open to question. Suppose the global university would enroll 500 hundred students from 100 nations. Should each nation send 5 students to the university, for sake of equality? Or should the quota be distributed out of proportion among nations, maybe 5 for country A, and 50 for country B, for students from B generally give a better performance on the entrance test, or B patrons more to the university? Obviously, unless all nations reach an agreement on the standard of enrollment, the proposed university would either stay as an illusion or end up with chaos. The same is also true in deciding the curriculum of the university. While some undeveloped countries might demand much emphasis on starvation, for the rich, in contrast, may ask for solutions to high rate of heart diseases and obese due to over consumption. For global university to successfully prepare students solve the world's most persistent social problems, to define what these problems are is prerequisite yet unfortunately, controversial.

In conclusion，given the global nature of some social problems and the need to fully utilized the limited resources, all nations should sponsor a global university designed to solve the worldwide social problems. For people eventually reap the benefit of such a university, how to enroll students from different countries and set the curriculum have come under consideration at advance.
