------题目------
Many problems of modern society cannot be solved by laws and the legal system because moral behavior cannot be legislated.
------正文------
We are living in a world that is more and more open and tolerant: individuals have more freedom than ever to determine/define their own moral beliefs without the interference of legal system/这个略微缺乏说服力,可以稍微再委婉些. But does this mean that moral behavior in modern society can be totally without being legislated/ 病句:but does this mean there is no legal legislation to combat some of the moral issues? I hold that no hasty answer should be given, for though some types of moral behaviors are law-free, while/ 就觉得转折在前面更清楚似的 others are not.
To begin with, the restriction on moral behaviors given by legal legislations in modern society is indeed no longer as strict as in traditional societies. In Ancient China and Islamic countries, for example, lawsonce covered almost all moral issues. What should one believe in, how should people treat each other, what kind of clothes they could wear--in a word, many personal behavior as we regard nowadays/ many which are regarded as personal behaviors today-- were all legislated by laws. Violating moral codes usually leads/led to the punishment by laws. The reason for this phenomenon , is that / delete is due to the totalitarianism system and singularity of their culture, a uniform standard of morality exists and could be carried out by autocratic government/ 断开吧,太长了。容易出现病句,这句话换为主动句似乎更流利些. In modern society, however, the situation is totally different/ 太绝对了. Modern society begins with the break of totalitarianism. We believe that "all men were created equal" and it is up to people themselves to determine their beliefs and behaviors; while the government has no right to control one’s personal belief and conscience. Moreover, the diversity of a modern society also makes uniform moral code impossible. Just look at the people living in New York City. They are Anglo-Saxon, African, Chinese, Korean, Jewish, Latin American, Italian, etc., coming from everywhere of the world, with their own distinctive cultures and moral standards. In such a multicultural environment, it is much easier for people to realize the difference among their moral beliefs, and to give up the idea to solve all moral problems by uniform laws, since people’s moral judgments are so diverse when facing the same issue. 这里的非常流畅的感觉
However, this does not follow that laws have nothing to do with morality in modern society. Although legal system cannot intervene personal moral beliefs, yet it has the responsibility to protect the stability of a society, an aim that can overthrow太绝对了/ inevitably have some impact on individual values. For one thing, some fundamental moral rules must be legislated. No matter people believe in Christian God or Islamic Ala, no matter they follow the taboo of food or clothes, all of them have to obey the rules of not to kill, not to cheat others, not to commit adultery, and not to steal and rob, without which/ or else the society will soon run into a chaos. For another, even some problems might not be as obvious as murder and adultery, the government still could make laws to restrict them. Take the issue of cloning human beings for example. Although some scientists hold it is moral-free, yet most people do not think it is morally right. In order to protect the greatest interests of the greatest number,/ the general这个错误在刚才那issue中也犯过 the government has reason to legislate laws to prevent this experiment. For both sides, as we see, government/ 不能没有冠词 still inhibits some immoral behaviors in modern society, by which people’s moral behaviors are legislated.这段很好,流畅,但是中间的那些杀人防火什么的你把它归为moral 感觉缺点说服力
In the final analysis, owing to the diversity and democracy of modern society, and the demands to maintain social order and most people’s interest, although legal system no longer regulates people's moral behaviors in every aspect of life as it did in ancient times, the fundamental moral rules nevertheless cannot be separated from the protection of/ delete laws, without which no society can remain stable or prosperous.
