Competition is ultimately more beneficial than detrimental to society

The speaker claims that competition is ultimately more beneficial than detrimental to society. Apparently, people are simply not feasible to come to an agreement on this highly controversial issue. In the last analysis, I am inclined to disagree the speaker's point of view. As far as I am concerned, I have a feeling that competition could be both beneficial and drtrimental to society. In the following discussion, I will present some reasons to substantiate my point of view.

To begin with, no doubt competition is one of the main driving forces of the advancement of human civilization. We need look no further than the manufacturing of computer to see the truth of my view. Due to severe competition, every manufactor try best to enhance their products. For example, during the past decade, the CPU frequency has increased from less than 100 Hz to more than 2.4 Hz, in addition, the monitor switched from CRT to LED. Consequently, not only did PC become more powerful and effective, but also it became much more affordable and convenient. No doubt, all of this technical advancement should be attributed to competition. To some extent, I can allege that, without competition, the speed of human developement will indebatably slow down.

However, on the other hand, in spite of the fact that competition lend colossal advancement to human civilization, nevertheless, societal competition could be ultimately detrimental as well. First of all, the interior group of people such as the disabilities and the people from undeveloped area, will certainly suffer from the competition, in that, this competition is not equal to them. For instance, the people from hinterland may lack of education, and the disabilities could be looked up on, thus they could be unequally treated in competition, etc. Accordingly, competition could be detrimental to that group of people then could lead to a biased society. Secondly, higher class could benefit much more from competition due to the asset they control and the social status they hold, and as a result, the superior group will surely be more wealthy. In short, if the government donot limit the societal compition in some aspects such as preserve interior group and limit the superior one, it will be detrimental to human society.

To sum up, it is very likely that people will never be able to arrive at the same conclusion on this highly debatable issue, however, my discussion above will certainly contribute to the thorough understanding of this point of view that competition could be both beneficial and detrimental to human society.
