On the history wave, only some small sprays would be noticed by the later viewer, but there are thousands of individuals behind to push the spray further. The most significant events and trends in history were made by groups of people whose identities have long been hidden by the light of some famous few, who may represent the power of the history wave.

The book of history is written by the general mass, not only by the famous few, though we often omit the contribution of ordinary people. For instance, we always remember that it is Washington who let American to be independence, but how many of us will pay equal emphasis on the individuals who organized and participated the Boston Tea Party? But the fact is that without the significant impact of Boston Tea Party, the dependence of American may not follow and people of today may even do not know who is Washington. The famous few are usually the proxies of the general, and their success and glaring contributions were based on sacrifice and wisdom of groups of people. Behind the Spartucas, stands uncountable Ancient Rome slaves; besides Martin Luther King, there are thousands of fighter for equality; except Cllins, numerous space workers and astronauts do a great efforts. Those significant people of history is only the most representative power, they push the wheel of history forward depended on the energy of groups of people.

However, the study of history cannot place too much emphasis on groups of people, because the records of the ordinary groups of people are usually too few to do detailed study. First, due to the diversity character in a group, it is very hard to give a well-rounded record of them. Even though such record exists, we cannot see the history trend and the process of developing easily and clearly from the tedious record on groups of people. On the other hand, we may face the question that whether we should treat the group of people as whole, or consider them on personal level. If we choose the former, it is very likely that we would loss in the vague notion of their common character, but emphasis on individual level would end in neglecting of groups again.

Moreover, paying attention on individuals can bring us convenience to history study. The reason of why those few become famous is that they were the most representative and excellent figure among the general, they always have the qualities beyond ordinary people, say, courage, wisdom, and insistence. It is more possible and efficient to choose the famous few as the doors to open the world of history, the map to guide us on the way. For example, we can see the history of World War Two more clearly if we emphasis on Roosevelt, Churl, and Stalin. Their decisions, schemes, and political strategy are well recorded and can show every repulse of the war at that time. Although the significant success of allied forces is due a lot to groups of soldiers, if we emphasis on them to do our history study, we will loss the overall view and have excessive concern on some minor details.

In summary, the wave of history is pushed right by the groups of people and the famous few are only represents of the total power behind to support the wave. But the study of history is more efficient and exact if we place emphasis on the sprays of  individuals rather than groups of ordinary people behind.
