Issue51 Education
------题目------
Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.
------正文------  457 words
I consider that the statement "education will be truly effective only when it is designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student." is unilateral.  In my view, if an education system want to be effective, it must be designed to keep the balance between the generalization and the meet to individual's needs and interests.

The purpose of education is not only to teach students knowledge and technique, but also to train the healthy personality of individual.  To gain this aim, what is necessary, especially for elementary education, is to teach all students the basic knowledge and ethics, whatever they like or not.  Even though in high school students are divided to several specialties, every student must still be received some common subjects such as language, ethics and so on.  Only if students grasp this foundational knowledge, they can develop their own major or interest effectively.  It is hardly believed that a student who is not able to write a smooth article can study science effectively, or an individual without judgment between right and wrong action would benefit the society.

On the other hand, each student has his/her own interest and need, which we cannot neglect.  Education must be designed to meet these, too.  If students can study for their own interests, obviously they are more efficiency.  I had a classmate in the College of Life Sciences of our university.  He entered this college, the best department of our university, for his high scores of entrance examination.  But in the second year, he found that he was not interesting in biology at all, and he could not learn anything from the biological courses.  Finally he got a degree of S. B with an inch of failure.  But now he is studying his interest ---- computer graphics in Australia, and becoming the best of his class.  This my own experience is used to point out that education is much effectively when it meet the individual needs and interests.  However, the needs and interests of students should conform to the whole society, at least not be harmful.  If some students had the interest about destroying or violence, would education still be designed to meet them?

Furthermore, schools can offer some special programs to fit the individuals needs and interests of most students, but to specifically design education to meet EACH student is unpractical, because neither the fund of education nor the teachers' energy are admitted.  If we forced to require education to meet needs and interests of every student, it would decrease the whole efficiency of education.

In sum, we attempt to train individuals for their own needs and interests on the base of general education.  For this, we can guarantee the whole education working effectively.

这句话好像有明显的arg痕迹,呵呵,我又学到东西了:关键是在specially desinged和generalization之间找到平衡虽然兴趣很重要,我们要考虑到fund and feabibility

能抽到这篇你运气真好,看看我的吧。

Will Education be truly effective when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student, as the speaker asserts? In my opinion I fundamentally agree with the speaker since study with student-centered system will have considerable merits. However, it is important not to take this statement too far; otherwise it will result in counterproductive consequence.

The first reason why I basically accede that the spear has to do with students’ interests is based on the experience of many excellent people. Admittedly, it is the interests of some scientists that serve as catalyst for the development of science and technology; it is also the interests of some artists that bring us a lot of spiritual enjoyment. History is replete with many examples that people who received little formal education but achieved a lot actually. Beethoven and Mozart come immediately to mind. Meanwhile, Einstein who made unprecedented breakthrough in the field of pure physics was one of the worst students when he was a college student in Swiss. Are these great minds’ accomplishments due to traditional education? The answer is absolutely no because the significance of students’ interests outweighs the ordinary education. If a student was urged to focus on the principle of high marks or some other goals which were directed by the non-student centered system, he or she would inevitably lose his or her enthusiasm somewhat. In fact, when a student apart from the purpose of high grades studies merely by his or her interest of knowledge or skill itself, he or she will achieve a lot. Thus students will benefit a lot under the student-centered system.

Another reason for my agreement with the statement is that under student-centered system students will better recognized their responsibilities. Understandably, this new system will allow students free reign to choose courses and majors for themselves. The process of choosing some courses in which they are interested while abandoning others renders students be responsible for their prospective jobs and lives in society for “life is a series of trying to make up your own decisions”(Fuller, a British writer). From this perspective, the fact that western countries do better than eastern countries well substantiate my viewpoint. The former ones give students more freedoms to choose what they are interested in while the latter emphasize too much on compulsory classes which are the same for every student. In turn, the prosperity of western countries outweighs the eastern ones.

While this student-centered system really has advantages in some aspects, however, we should not overstate the significance of this statement for two reasons. Firstly, when students are young and unsophisticated, perhaps they do not know what they are really interested in and dislike. Considering this point; educational administrators have the duties to give them more guidance in their hobbies. Otherwise, young children are more likely to be attracted by some appealing but adverse things such as violence or drugs. Furthermore, the student-centered system requires a school or college to employ teachers majored in nearly every aspect and good at students’ psychology. Considering this case; Schools or colleges whether funded by government tax or private persons will undertake more burden in economic.

In sum, it is good for schools to design course and trainings specifically with the purpose of meeting every student’s interest. However, it is imperative for schools or colleges to do more in order to achieve this goal. In order to establish a perfect environment for students, not only should the educator pay attention on interests of student, but also they cannot neglect the effect of the schools.
