"Scandals--whether in politics, academia, or other areas--can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why scandals, no matter in politics, academia, or other societal level, are so useful as to gain more demos in focus other than speaker or reformer does? Obviously, Scandals could serve to reveal large problem in public by way of flattering social member's curiosity in deed, and thus be validated under social value system. As common sense suggests, scandals would be solved otherwise neglected in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could. In some cases, if scandals is abused ,may engender side effect other than usefulness.
Firstly, in social level, scandals, never far from politics, usually have positive effects by far-reaching influence on social merits and reform. Just like Watergate scandal, which implicated with lots of illegal activities during election, soon forced U.S. former president Nixon to resign in disgrace. This affair urges U.S. presidents in success to face more self-restraint of accountability and confidence, thereby rendering more pungent power upon governmental self-discipline and political rectitude.
On the other hand, the uncover of scandals reflects the righteous power of medium and social consensus. Resorting to such forces, or perhaps pressure, scandals have their functions of strengthening immaculacy of other nonpolitical areas, such as academia, sports, etc. For example, Black Sox scandal, which five baseball players had been bribed to lost Word Serials purposively, was disclosed and commented by media. The disclosure ensured justness and holiness of sports. And even Nobel Prize itself , once was blamed for scandal which involved in wrongdoings of literature awarding. Under such considerations, scandals is a impetus other than blockage which improve society aiming at more useful ways.
In present-society, medium, such as TV, newspaper, and internet, is the channels which pervasively call attention to scandals. But if the medium overstates truth, or even disguised for unavailable scandals by quest of public attention or side-wind profit. it would bring great side-effect or even detrimental to scandal's victim.
In a sum, Scandals often serve to embody more importance in some area, especially social-political affairs, than speaker or reformer can. However, no matter what level of scandals derived from, scandals should deserve to be trusted otherwise suspected. Thus it would be useful to society and community.
