I do not agree with the speaker's opinion, and I think whether individual or team can be the impetus for innovation. In addition, not only the details but also true innovation can be resulted from a team.

Admittedly, in the past, the impetus for innovation is always from an individual. During that period, the world was correspondingly simple, so it is possible for an individual to make invention or true innovation. There were lots of examples in the history. For example, Edison invented bulb mainly depending on himself; Bill Gates finished the MS-DOS operating system only by his own efforts.

However, with the development of societies, the world becomes more and more complex, and team is more and more important in the process of innovation than before. Since the complication of innovation, it is certain that the detail should be worked out by a team. Furthermore, the true innovation also cannot only depend on an individual’s enterprise and unique perception. For example, it is unimaginable to make improvement in space flight region or biology region since an individual cannot consider comprehensively in all facets because it is not likely that one can master all sub-facets. Thus, team has great advantages than individual. There is an old saying, “Many heads are better than one.” When many people work together, with discussion and prompt each other, they can think out good ideas more probably. Even if the final innovation is brought by an individual, the other’s contribution cannot be neglected.

Moreover, in fact, personal enterprise and unique perception do not conflict with team's work. Many individuals form a team. When processing a large project, each member can be expert of different facet and can be the impetus for innovation of his sub-region. Then, collecting all the members' innovation as a whole is more likely to make great improvement or important invention. For instance, to launch a space shuttle needs many fields’ knowledge, such as physics, astronomy, aeronautics, and even politics. Unless all the experts from different fields cooperate well, the plan cannot be processed favorably.

To sum up, the impetus for innovation does not limit to individuals, and it also can be from a team. Actually, with the cooperation of every team's members, it is more likely to make great innovation.
