TOPIC:ISSUE 13 - "Many of the world's lesser-known languages are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them. The governments of countries in which these languages are spoken should act to prevent such languages from becoming extinct."
WORDS:579          TIME:上午 12:41:40          DATE:2006-3-22

In accordance with the title of the assertion, since some of lesser-known languages are being vanished resulted from few people using them, the governments of countries in which these languages are spoken ought to serve to save such languages. On balance, although I fundamentally agree with that humans should prevent those languages from extinction, the contention of the speaker is too extreme, when it comes to overstating saving those languages no matter what cost.

The reason why I essentially agree with the speaker's statement is that, with the development in international economy and communication without any cessation, some indistinctive languages are gradually being lost. When people came into the twentieth century, plus advanced discoveries and scientific inventions, the distance between countries is enormously decreasing. Therefore, our Earth begins to be regarded as a village on the basis of telecommunications and transportation rapidly progressing. Furthermore, the local economy is also replaced by the global economy. People require a common language to transmute thoughts and information to accomplish a series of trades, and thus many governments pay more attention to educate his fellows the international language and neglect mother languages or some ones living in special nationality, even some governments enacted policies to use the international language as the official language. Consequently, it is certain that many languages, especially those lesser-known ones, are being lost because fewer and fewer people utilize them.

Another reason why I tend to favor the outlook of the speaker is that the government should aid and enrich those languages in order to keep them from disappearing. Even though our world will become a unit and integrated one in the future, for better or worse, people still demand keeping a diverse and colorful world. For one thing, certain language can remind some great and valuable culture. In China, it possess 51 various nationalities, almost all of which have their own language representing their culture. Although people concede that beauty and culture sometimes can be displayed by other languages, if they carefully remind their experience of reading the translated books or watching similar films, they will admit that, as a matter of fact, some culture can only be precisely described by its ascended language. Thereby, the government of China has allocated valuable resources to preserve different languages. For another, various languages can recall people our world composed by diverse people and culture, so that conflictions will be not avoided. Human beings should study tolerating and respecting other ones, which can make avail with improving the unity of the world.

Admittedly, although there are some merits in the speaker's view, people can not take it too far. Whether a government should invest a large deal of money, people and time to save lesser-known languages or not, depending largely on the capabilities and current state of the government. It is undoubted that the principle of natural selection does not only exist in animals. In actual fact eliminating outmoded things including culture, languages even and nationalities is a normal principle in history. Under that circumstance, people should not call for governments to supply to prevent them extinction because it will violate the principle of nature. On the other hand, saving those languages more or less need many valuable resources appropriated by governments. To some countries which lack resources or are under many persistent problems such as hungry, flood and war, saving languages is not a right and sound measure at that time.

To sum up, due to analysis and reasons mentioned above, there is little doubt that people should adopt sound methods to handle the problem with the losing languages relying on different conditions of countries.
