History could be helpful for us to make decisions today but can not be dependent on wholly.

History is a mirror. It could reflect many things in today society. There are many recurrences in the history.

People nowadays could learn some rules and thoughts in many subjects such as politics, economics, philosophy, etc.

However, there are still much difference between ancient time and today. We could not rely on history absolutely.

On the whole, we have to admit that we could get much information from history when determining things. But under different circumstances, we should make our own decisions.

97.The following appeared in a memo from the manager of television station KICK.
"A nationwide survey reveals that a sizeable majority of men would like to see additional sports programs on television. After television station WACK increased its sports broadcasts, its share of the television audience in its viewing area almost doubled. To gain a larger audience share in our area, and thus increase company profits, KICK should also revise its broadcast schedule to include more sports coverage."
1.        The survey might not be so correct for some reasons.
2.        If the survey is correct, it does not mean more sport coverage will gain a larger audience and increase profits.
3.        Maybe there are some reasons for the increasing in the share of audience, such as some big sports games at a time.

180.The following is a recommendation from the personnel director to the president of Acme Publishing Company.
"Many other companies have recently stated that having their employees take the Easy Read Speed-Reading Course has greatly improved productivity. One graduate of the course was able to read a five-hundred-page report in only two hours; another graduate rose from an assistant manager to vice president of the company in under a year. Obviously, the faster you can read, the more information you can absorb in a single workday. Moreover, Easy Read costs only $500 per employee-a small price to pay when you consider the benefits to Acme. Included in this fee is a three-week seminar in Spruce City and a lifelong subscription to the Easy Read newsletter. Clearly, Acme would benefit greatly by requiring all of our employees to take the Easy Read course."
1.        The argument is based on a false analogy. APC may have different situation from others and it might be useless.
2.        Only one or two are pointed out to prove effective, but more people having taken the course might not get help.
3.        It can not be seen that it is necessary for every employer to improve their  reading speed.

205.The following appeared in a recommendation from the president of Amburg's Chamber of Commerce.
"Last October the city of Belleville installed high intensity lighting in its central business district, and vandalism there declined almost immediately. The city of Amburg has recently begun police patrols on bicycles in its business district but the rate of vandalism there remains constant. Since high intensity lighting is apparently the most effective way to combat crime, we should install such lighting throughout Amburg. By reducing crime in this way, we can revitalize the declining neighborhoods in our city."

1.        The argument is based on a false analogy between Belleville and Amburg.
2.        It can not be indicated directly that vandalism declined for intensity lighting.
3.        Police patrols are begun recently and there might be sill a time before they effect.
4.        The arguer fails to make us believe that lighting should be installed through out Amburg.
