TOPIC: ARGUMENT45 - The following appeared as an editorial in a wildlife journal.

"Arctic deer live on islands in Canada's arctic region. They search for food by moving over ice from island to island during the course of a year. Their habitat is limited to areas warm enough to sustain the plants on which they feed, and cold enough, at least some of the year, for the ice to cover the sea separating the islands, allowing the deer to travel over it. Unfortunately, according to reports from local hunters, the deer populations are declining. Since these reports coincide with recent global warming trends that have caused the sea ice to melt, we can conclude that the decline in arctic deer populations is the result of deer being unable to follow their age-old migration patterns across the frozen sea."

This argument is problematic for several critical flaws. The arguer simply believes the assertion from the hunter that the number of deer is declining. Moreover, he simply concludes that the declined was due to global warming. All of these are not well reasoned.

First of all, the report from the hunter is deeply in doubt. Hunters are a special group of people whose interest are closely connected with wild lives, including arctic deer. It might be the case that they intended to tell others that the number is declining to break people's psychological bottom line to accept the fact that the number of deer in declining so they will not be blame for killing these deer. Even if these hunters were telling the truth, I cannot believe that the number of deer is actually declining according to the observations by the hunters. It is likely that these hunters always stays in a certain areas for hunting, there are many large areas that the hunters had not explored. It is probably that the deer are avoiding the hunters and they seek for some areas that the hunters had not discovered as their new living place that also can meet their needs.

For another, even if we make the assumption that the number of deer is declining, it is too presumptuous to say that it is the result of global warming. First of all, even if the weather became warmer on average, there is no information that the temperature in Artic was also rising, it is possible that the temperature remain the same or even became colder although other parts of the world suffered from warming. Furthermore even if the weather in Artic was also warmer than before, there was no sign that the deer would be lack of place for maintain their migration patterns. They can move north since the weather becomes warmer, the northern place which used to be not suitable for living might become a acceptable place. Thus, we cannot judge that global warming disturbed that Arctic deer’s migration.

What is more, the arguer narrowly thinks that global warming is the only possible reason. Actually, possibility such as the diminished of foods might contribute to the result. Also, factor concerning with the hunters mentioned before might due to the declining. It is quite possible that the hunters made an excuse about the declining so that they can escape from punishment. Or perhaps the number of deer has a periodic decline and booming that is not known by us.

Without a careful examination, we cannot arrive at the conclusion as the arguer claims.

This argument is problematic for several critical flaws. The arguer simply believes the assertion from the hunter that the number of deer is declining. Moreover, he simply concludes that the declined was due to global warming. All of these are not well reasoned.(不错! 开头简单明了)

First of all, the report from the hunter is deeply in doubt. Hunters are a special group of people whose interest are(is) closely connected with wild lives, including arctic deer. It might be the case that they intended to tell others that the number is declining to break people's psychological bottom line to accept the fact that the number of deer in declining so they will not be blame(blamed) for killing these deer.(我觉得这跟那个心理底线没什么关系吧,要是打破了心理底线人们应该更加保护鹿,不让hunter了不管是不是猎人的原因.所以这句你再看看.(To give general population a psychological hint that the declining number of the artic deer is more likely due to other reasons rather than their activities.) Even if these hunters were telling the truth, I cannot believe that the number of deer is actually declining according to the observations by the hunters. It is likely that these hunters always stays in a certain areas for hunting,(while) there are many large areas that the hunters(those) had not explored. It is probably that the deer are avoiding the hunters and they seek(一句话两种时态读起来不爽) for some areas that the hunters had not discovered as their new living place that also can meet their needs.

Furthermore even if the weather in Artic(Arctic) was also warmer than before, there was no sign that the deer would be lack of place for maintain their migration patterns.
