TOPIC: ISSUE177 - "The study of an academic discipline alters the way we perceive the world. After studying the discipline, we see the same world as before, but with different eyes."

Along with our increased knowledge, our perspective on the world has changed a lot. It is not because the world is actually different from what it was like before, the real reason is that we have seen the same thing from a totally different angle.

The first reason for my viewpoint is that after mastering some basic scientific principles, we can correct something which could have been misunderstood by us before. An apt example to illustrate this point can be associated to the learning of astronomy. As we all know, in ancient time, it was thought that the earth is flat, however, through the studying of astronomy, we realize that the earth is actually a sphere which can be confirmed by the arc-shaped horizon or the eclipse phenomenon we observed. An even more striding example is that after we have learned politics, we can explain some political policies which were taken for granted by us. In fact, there exist some inappropriate policies which is in favor of people in power or some taxations tilt to the rich people. Due to the study of such disciplines, we have seen the world in a more objective way.

Moreover, after studying philosophy and related disciplines, we obtain the ability to judge everything in life from both its good sides and the bad sides.When we are in the early age of our lives, the world seems to be so simple to us. We always draw an conclusion in short time and say this person is a good guy and that person is a bad one. After learning philosophy, we are gradually aware of the fact everything in the world is a complicated unity which can not be totally good or vice versa. As a result, we can understand other people if they commit some fallacies or hold a different opinion from us. Also we would not adore a person like before since we know he/she may also have some disadvantages too.

Furthermore, the study of art can also change our methods to perceive the world. It is art that makes our lives no longer boring. It brings us a colorful world which would otherwise unpleasing if we are always emerge us in the burdensome work. The study of art let people know, if we want to lead a happy life, we must treat the ordinary life with the eyes of the artists. Although we may feel tired sometimes, we still should try to find pleasure in everything we are dealing with like an artist is creating his/her masterpiece.

In conclusion, academic disciplines are crucial to everyone, after we are equipped with the diversified knowledge they can provided with us, we become mature and can see the world in a both rational and romantic way which is quite different from what we were like before.
